Donations requested for temporary housing
It’s been about two weeks since John Naves received a text about a disabled veteran and his wife who were struggling with serious health issues and had no place to live.
Since that time Naves, founder and chaplain of a new charity dedicated to serving the poor and hungry in Pickens, has worked exhaustively to help the couple. Now Naves and other Love thy Neighbors volunteers are reaching out to the community for donations to help the Johnsons.

It was raining lightly on January 1 when Jasper’s Mike McGhee got on Clara, his faithful recumbent bicycle, loaded down with all kinds of bulging bags plus a guitar strapped to the back.
I mentioned something about the poor cycling weather, McGhee replied that if he were worried about a little rain, he wouldn’t be doing this at all.

Deputies arrest 6 in Burglary of Jasper Convenience Store
Pickens County Georgia, January 3, 2017: During the night of January 1st, deputies with the Pickens Sheriff’s Office and Jasper Police Officers arrest 6 individuals for breaking into the Dunn’s Food Mart in Talking Rock Georgia.
Deputies with the Pickens Sheriff’s Office spotted a suspicious vehicle near the Dunn’s Food Mart located at the intersection of Hwy 515 and Antioch Church Road in Talking Rock Georgia. While the deputies were speaking with the two individuals, Jasper Police Officers confirmed that a break in had taken place at Dunn’s Food Mart.
As both agencies continued the investigation, 4 additional individuals were arrested in connections to the case. Detectives then began the work of processing the scene and learned that another convenient
