Carl Owenby
    Rev. Carl E. Owenby, 92, of Talking Rock, died Monday August 22, 2016.
    Rev. Owenby was born February 9, 1924 in Gilmer County the son of the late Harve and Neta Sutton Owenby. He worked at Pickens Foot Wear, was a member of the Talona Baptist Church, and Blaine Lodge # 534 F&AM. Rev. Owenby began his ministry in 1959 and for 56 years served as pastor for numerous churches in north Georgia.
    Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Bertie Craver Owenby; daughter, Shirley McArthur, Talking Rock; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Monona Owenby, Columbus; four grandchildren, Michael McArthur, Crisanna Hayes, Marcus Owenby, Matthew Owenby; 10 great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held Thursday, August 25th at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Cagle Funeral Home in Jasper with Rev. Joey Philips, Rev. Wallace Parks, Rev. Harold Mull and Rev. Tim Hyde officiating. Music was by Martha Gibson. Pallbearers were: Michael McArthur, Bryan Hayes, Marcus Owenby, Matthew Owenby, Charlie Holbert, Mark Lowe, Honorary pallbearers were: Harold Banks, Jerry Millsaps, Jason Holbert, Karol Parker, Deno Carver Daryl Cain.  Interment was in the Antioch Church cemetery with graveside rites by the Blaine Lodge#534 F&AM.

Anita Granito-Scott
    Mrs. Anita K. Granito-Scott of Jasper passed away Friday, August 26, 2016 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
    She was born in Queens Village, New York to Henry C. Kunkel and Johanna Kelly.
    Mrs. Scott is survived by her husband, Herbert Kenneth Scott of Jasper; son, Mark R. Tiffany of Yucca Valley, California; sister, Jackie Gutafson of Arizonia; daughters, Sharon (George) Habiniak, Deborah Smith of Latham, New York; niece, Ann Marie Fox; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
    A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at Lake Forest Memorial Park in Jasper.

Jean Hogue
    Jean Hogue, 83, of Jasper, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2016 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, August 29, 2016 at the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with Pastor Ben Mock officiating. Graveside services were held Tuesday, August 30 at Highland Memorial Gardens in Bessemer, Alabama.
    Jean was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Jasper, and enjoyed caring for and serving people.
    She was preceded in death by her daughters, Dianne Higgins Scott and Denise Higgins Martin. Survivors include her husband, Michael Hogue; daughter, Becky Higgins; siblings, Peggy Patrick, Linda Aaron, Nancy Shirley and Gerald Spain; a host of nieces and nephews.
    In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1036 N. Main Street, Jasper, Georgia 30143.

Paul Wofford
April 1, 1931 – August 27, 2016

    Mr. Paul David Wofford, 85, of Marble Hill passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Northside Hospital Cherokee. Mr. Wofford was born April 1, 1931 to the late Robert and Dessie Wofford.
    He is survived by his children, Michael and Terrie Wofford of Ellijay, Randall and Sharon Wofford of Jasper, Teresa and Stan Worley of Dawsonville; sister, Vertie Moody of Canton; brothers, Lester Wofford of Jasper, Billy Wofford of Marble Hill; 7 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.  Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
    He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Janet Wofford.
    Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Harold Cantrell and Reverend Johnny McPherson officiating. Interment will follow in Long Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery.

Marion Allred
February 5, 1958 - August 26, 2016

    Mr. Marion Martin “Marty” Allred, 58, of Tate, Georgia passed away Friday, August 26, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper.
    Marty is survived by his daughter and her best friend, Lacy Allred and Michael Spring of Woodstock; parents, Marion and Sue Allred of Tate; brother and partner, Chris Allred and William of Miami; loving companion and her children, Belinda Lowe, Jesse & Carly of Tate.  Several aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.
    Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, August 28, at Cool Springs Cemetery in Tate.

Danny Poole
May 6, 1952 – August 27, 2016

    Mr. Danny Edward Poole, 64, of Jasper, Georgia passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper. Danny was born May 6, 1952 in Jasper to John and Ruth Poole.
    He is survived by his mother, Ruth Poole of Jasper; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry Randall Poole of Jasper, Jason Scott and Heather Poole of Jasper, Jackie Poole of Jasper; nephews, Griffin Poole of Jasper, and Fletcher Poole of Jasper.
    He was preceded in death by his father, John A. Poole and brother, Steve Michael Poole.
    Memorial services are scheduled for 3 p.m., Thursday, September 1, 2016 at the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Danny Townsend officiating.
    The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m.

Jack Collins
December 15, 1938 - August 26, 2016

    Mr. Jack Collins, 77, of Jasper, passed away Friday August 26, 2016 at Grady Memorial Hospital.
    Mr. Collins is survived by his wife, Ann Collins of Jasper; sons and daughters-in-law, Sammy & Tammy Collins of Jasper and Steve & Cheryl Collins of Jasper; daughters and sons-in-law, Terri & Melvin Puckett of Jasper and Tammy & Bo Champion of Jasper; brother and sister-in-law, Bill & Faye Collins of Jasper; brothers-in-law, Tommy Massey and Kenny Massey, both of Jasper; sister-in-law, Paulette Massey of Jasper; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces, Jimmy & Kathy Cagle, Keith & Maria Collins, all of Jasper; and several other nieces and nephews.
    Mr. Collins was preceded in death by his parents, John D. and Willie Mae Collins; his brother, Bobby Lee Collins; daughter, Tina Collins; and grandchildren, Paula Puckett and David Collins.
    The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, August 29, 2016 at the chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Shipman officiating. Interment at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Phillip Collins, Dalton Collins, Brett Champion, Levi Champion, Chris Collins, and Cawl Cochran.

June 26, 1933 –August 28, 2016
    Mrs. Elizabeth Cornett Waters, 83, of Jasper, Georgia passed away Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper. Mrs. Waters was born June 26, 1933 to Talton and Maggie Cornett.
    She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Lonnie and Ruth Ann Waters of Jasper, Gary & Deborah Waters of Fairmount; sisters, Eva Denney of Jasper, Mary Carver of Talking Rock; brothers, J.C. Cornett of Jasper, Randall Cornett of Jasper; grandchildren, Matthew and Katy Waters of Fairmount, Zachary and Amber Waters of Jasper, Kyle and Rachel Waters of Jasper, Stephen and Jessie Waters of Fairmount, Joey Thompson and Jordan Scales of Jasper; great-grandchildren, Addison Waters, Chloe Waters, Lauren Waters, Bristol Waters, Lily Waters, Waylon Waters, and Owen Waters.  Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, James Earl Waters; brothers, Preston Cornett, and Harpo Cornett.
    Funeral services were held at 4 p.m., Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Philadelphia Baptist Church with Reverend Nathan Smith and Reverend Tim McFarland officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.

E.C. Owen
    Mr. E.C. Owen, retired minister, 91, of Ringgold, GA, formerly of Canton, passed away Sunday August 28, 2016 at Traquility at Kennesaw Mountain Hospice.
    Mr. Owen is survived by his wife of 73 years, Oma Lee Holmes Owen of Ringgold, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Treena & James Grimes of Cumming, GA and Brenda & Edsel Manous of Canton; son-in-law, Bill Moody of Harrison, TX; grandchildren, Sharon Moody Stone, Sandy Moody Jones, Stephanie Grimes & Mike Thomas, Jason & Rose Grimes, and eight great-grandchildren.
    Mr. Owen was preceded in death by his daughter, Joyce Owen Moody.
    The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, September 1 at the chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Ministers Mike Thomas and Tommy Pettyjohn officiating. Interment at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers that served: Bill Moody, Jason Grimes, Jake Padgett, Larry Owen, Micah Thomas, McCord Thomas, and Robert Lamb.

October 24, 1930 - August 24, 2016

    Mrs. Nancy Fitts Frazier, 85, of Jasper, passed away Wednesday August 24, 2016 at her residence.
    Mrs. Frazier is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Charles & Kathy Fitts of Jasper; sister and brother-in-law, Susan & Ralph Beck of Jasper; special nieces, Amy & Michael D'Anthony of Marietta and Jane & Ed Linton of Eatonton, GA; nephew, Andy & Jamie Beck of Jasper; and several other nieces and nephews.
    A graveside service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Georgia Memorial Park in Marietta with Rev. Randy Walker officiating.
