Ms. Mildred Hopkins, 90, of Jasper, passed away Wednesday May 3, 2017 at Pruitt Healthcare in Jasper.
Ms. Hopkins is survived by several cousins including Elise Andrews of Jasper and adopted family Joan & Mark Popham of Ball Ground.
Ms. Hopkins was preceded in death by her parents, B.N. "Newt" and Lemma Hammontree Hopkins and special friends, Glenn Cantrell and Mary Vann.
A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 5 at Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Mr. Mark Popham officiating. Interment at Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers that served: AC Coleman, Danny Cronan, Jimmy Fitts, Ben Popham, Carlos Hicks, Bobby Hollingshed, and honorary pallbearer Layla Popham.
The family accepted flowers or donations may be made to Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or Amicalola Garden Club.

Wilbur Newman, 90, died on May 7, 2017 in Jasper, Georgia.
Wilbur was a WWII veteran, serving in the Navy. After the war he attended the University of South Carolina on a football scholarship where he received a BS in Accounting.
He was a founding partner of Newman-Penter-James, Co, Inc., working in the lighting and electrical equipment business.
Wilbur was married to Jean P. Newman for 63 years until her death on October 4, 2015. He is survived by a daughter, Pam Mengert; sons, Bruce and Brad; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
An avid golfer, he was a member of East Lake Country Club and Bent Tree Country Club.
A celebration of Wilbur's life will be held on Saturday, May 13th at 11 a.m. at Fellowship Presbyterian Church, 389 Bent Tree Drive, Jasper Georgia.

Eugene Russell Hunter, known by Gene to family and friends, 86, passed away early Sunday morning, April 16, 2017.
Father to Daran and Kevin, Husband to Tamara, Gene was born in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, in 1930 and graduated from North Texas State University. In 1997, Gene and wife Tamara settled here in Jasper in Bent Tree. Gene and Tamara previously resided in Houston & Dallas Texas, Memphis Tennessee, Dunwoody, Georgia, Peachtree Corners, Georgia and St. George Island, Florida.
Gene was the Southeastern Regional Manager for the Lone Star Steel Company out of Dallas, Texas and traveled throughout the U.S. and particularly the southeast as part of his job.
Gene also served in the Coast Guard, during which he traveled to Japan, California, Alaska and many other locations. While stationed in Hawaii, he and a friend had an old car they used to get around and would let other friends borrow. A car in which, unbeknownst to him at the time, his future wife Tamara would also ride in, who he would later meet back in Texas.
As a hobby Gene enjoyed dining out and traveling and was also an avid wildlife watcher and particularly enjoyed bird watching. Gene also had a lifelong love of tennis and played throughout his life and won the state title of Texas High School Singles Tennis Champion while in school.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Tamara Hunter & son, Daran Hunter and is survived by his son, Kevin T. Hunter of Jasper, Georgia. Gene was of the Baptist faith.
