Loy D. Mullinax

October 13, 1931 – August 26, 2018

 

Loy Deane Mullinax, 86, of Jasper passed away Sunday, August 26, 2018 at his home. He was born October 13, 1931 to Elbert and Alma Mullinax in Pickens County.

Loy D. was a beloved husband, father and grandfather.  He was a member of Ball Creek Baptist Church and a Marine veteran. He was a builder, contractor, and owner of Mullinax Cabinet and Truss Company for 50+ years. Loy helped organize and served as a Charter Board Member of Pickens County Bank currently known as Regions Bank.

Loy D. is survived by his wife of 64 years, Minalee Dean Mullinax; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Robert Jones of Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Phil and Teresa Mullinax of Jasper; grandchildren, Sonia and John Gossett, Chad and Lacey Jones, Jeremy Mullinax and Haley Girard, Kadie Mullinax and Jordan Shaw; great-grandchildren, Joseph Gossett, David Gossett, Carson Jones, Nina Jones, Camden Jones, Anniston Jones; sister, Eva King; sister-in-law, Claudia Buckner; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Dianne Dean.  Several close nieces and nephews also survive, O.T. and Colleen Mullinax, Jenny and Billy Jones, Sharon Godfrey, Terrell and Christy King, J.W. and Maxine Dean, Sharon Gramling.

He was preceded in death by parents, Elbert and Alma Mullinax; brothers, Doyle Mullinax, Thurston Mullinax; and sister, Evelyn Gibson.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Ball Creek Baptist Church with Brother Jeremy Mullinax, Reverend Edwin Weaver, and Reverend Thomas Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Reverend Wallace Parks in charge of the Graveside Service. Reverend Matt Lathem will lead prayer in the church. Pallbearers are Chad Jones, John Gossett, Joseph Gossett, Carson Jones, David Gossett, Greg Jones, Larry Dean and Jordan Shaw.  

The family is accepting flowers or those who desire may make donations to Ball Creek Baptist Church and Cemetery Fund at PO Box 52; Talking Rock, GA  30175

Carol Gill

Carol Ann Harris Gill, 71, of Dallas, died peacefully surrounded by her family on the morning of August 18, 2018. 

Ann was born in Jasper, Georgia to Edwin and Gladys (Burgess) Harris, who have preceded her in death. Ann is survived by her devoted husband of 31 years, Frank Harrison Gill, with whom she shared a close and loving partnership filled with adventure. Ann is survived by her son, Judson Bailey and his wife, ZoeAnn of Houston, Texas; her sister, Nancy (Harris) Auburn and her husband, Robert of Gig Harbor, Washington, Edwina (Harris) Low and husband Michael of Vinings, Georgia; stepdaughter, Leslie (Gill) Hope and her husband, Daryl of Rockwall, Texas; her stepson, Douglas Gill and his wife, Holly of Dallas, Texas; her granddaughters, Abigail, Katelyn and Georgia Bailey of Houston, Texas; and step granddaughters, Emma and Sydney Gill of Dallas, Texas, daughters of Douglas and Michelle Gill. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ann graduated from the Georgia Baptist Nursing School in Atlanta, Georgia and was a registered nurse for 50 years. In her 12 years of teaching nursing, she supervised thousands of nurses through their clinicals. She was also named one of the top 10 salespersons when she worked for Ohmeda selling medical equipment. Ann and Frank also lived in Ajijic, Mexico for 10 years and enjoyed cruising faraway places like Costa Rica, the Panama Canal, Russia, Spain, and Germany. Ann and Frank loved to cook gourmet food together and took a cooking trip to Tuscany, Italy. 

The funeral service will be in the Abbey on August 27, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Baylor Health Care System Foundation and designating Palliative & Supportive Care Clinic as the recipient.

 

Betty McDaniel

Betty A. McDaniel, 87, of Jasper, Georgia passed away Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital. She was born December 6, 1930 to Roy Clyde and Gussie Mae Akin in Dekalb County.  

Mrs. McDaniel was preceded in death by her husband, Marion "Mac" McDaniel; son, David McDaniel; and granddaughter, Elizabeth McDaniel.  

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Tammie McDaniel of Gainesville; daughters and son-in-law, Susan and Edward Johnson of Jasper, Marcia McDaniel of Jasper; daughter-in-law, Jean McDaniel Fowler of Sunset Beach, North Carolina; sisters-in-law, Peggy Akin, Sis McDaniel; grandchildren, Kate McDaniel, Allison and Matthew Dykes, Cale and Erin McDaniel, Abbey McDaniel; and great-grandchildren, Madalyn Dykes and Braxton McDaniel.

Mrs. McDaniel obtained her B.S. degree in Home Economics from Georgia State College for Women and her Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling from West Georgia College. Betty spent 30 years in education and retired from Pickens Area Vocational Technical School.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Jasper with Reverend Greg Pope and Reverend David Stuart officiating. Interment will follow in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
