Lester Wofford

Lester Hubert Wofford, 89, of Jasper, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Serenity Mountain Manor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Wofford; his parents, Robert and Dessie Wofford; brothers, Paul Wofford, Glenn Wofford, Jackie Wofford; and sister, Lorene Watkins.

He is survived by his sister, Vertie Moody of Canton; brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Donna Wofford of Jasper; and sister-in-law, Winnell Wofford of Ball Ground. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A graveside service was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Long Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery.   

Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.

 

Euline Caylor

 

Euline Mertice Caylor,  91, of Jasper, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Wildwood Health Care in Talking Rock.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cicero Caylor; mother and father, Charlie and Mary Duvall and her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dorinda and Ned Hillhouse of Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Ernest Hughes of Jasper; grandchildren, Cindy and Bobby Klein Jr. of Canton; John and Carrie Hillhouse of Jasper; Becky and Kevin Helton of Ellijay; great- grandchildren, Bobby Klein III and Krystal Klein of Jasper, Jacob and Braxton Klein of Canton, Hayden and Ryan Carmean of  Pensacola Florida, Adeline Parker of Ellijay, Slade and Kealy Hillhouse of Jasper; and great-great-grandchild, David Klein of Jasper. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

] Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 24th at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Jasper with Reverend Harold Cantrell, Reverend Ronnie Ray, Reverend Buck Parker, Reverend Wallace Parks and Reverend Mark Caylor officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will accept  flowers or donations can be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church; c/o Jerry Gibson; 2601 Bryant Road; Jasper, Georgia 30143. 

Arrangements are entrusted to the caring staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.

 

Tyre Ridings

October 11, 1935 - December 29, 2018

 

Mr. Tyre Ridings, 83, of Marble Hill, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2018 at his residence. 

Mr. Ridings is survived by his wife, Lois Ridings of Marble Hill; daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca & Ken Lambert of Marble Hill and Melissa & Kenny Payne of Marble Hill; brother, J. B. Ridings of Decatur, GA; sister, Lorene Pearson of Social Circle, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Ruthel & Ray Mauldin of Ball Ground; grandchildren, Ethan & Jessie Gibson and Jacob Lambert; great-grandchildren, Ansley Gibson and Liam Gibson. Also several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 31, 2018 in the Cagle Funeral Home Chapel. Rev Harold Bottoms, Rev. Tommy Estes and Rev. Keith Barnes officiating. 

Interment was at Lake Forest Memorial Park in Jasper, immediately following the funeral services. 

The family accepted flowers or donate to Marble Hill Baptist Church.

Lisa Byers

Mrs. Melisa Ann “ Lisa” Byers, 54, of Fairmount, Ga. went to meet the Lord Sunday morning December 30, 2018 at Wildwood Health Care in Talking Rock, Ga., with her loving family by her side. 

Lisa was born July 29, 1964 in Copperhill, Tennessee. Lisa was a 1982 graduate of Fannin County High School. She worked several years as a State Farm Insurance Agent and as a substitute teacher at Pickens High School. Her life was dedicated to serving her Lord and caring for her family. She was an active member of the Pleasant Grove (Ryo) Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing and playing the piano. She was very proud that she was able to home school her children.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jessie “Jett” and Maggie O’Neal and Harley and Siddie Payne and her father-in-law, Grady Byers.

She is survived by the love of her life, Leroy Byers, and was married January 27, 1990; her son, Jarad Lee Byers; daughter, Kaitlyn Leeann Byers, all of Fairmount; parents, Clyde and Ivlean Payne O’Neal; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dewayne and Tiffany O’Neal, Steve and Stephanie O’Neal, all of McCaysville; mother-in-law, Martha Byers of Mineral Bluff, Ga.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Troy and Edye Byers of Sugar Hill, Ga.; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Melisa Ann “Lisa” Byers will be held Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 1 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove (Ryo) Baptist Church in Fairmount, Ga., with Reverend Marty Padgett and Reverend Jerome Silvers officiating. She will be laid to rest in the church cemetery with Troy Byers, Peyton Byers, Lynn Payne, Jason Payne, Greg Payne and Jeff Payne serving as pallbearers.

Jenny Lanning

March 28, 1948 - December 29, 2018

 

Mrs. Jenny Lanning, 70, of Jasper, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital. 

Mrs. Lanning is survived by her son, Ryan Lanning of Jasper; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom & Lois Mattlin of Delta, PA, Dave & Marlyn Mattlin of Bainbridge, GA, Bob & Sue Mattlin of Cincinnati, OH, and Joe & Diane Matttlin of Wilmington, NC. 

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2019 in the Cagle Funeral Home Chapel. 

Pallbearers: Justin Beavers, Joe Mattlin, Tom Mattlin, Dave Mattlin and Bob Mattlin. 

Interment will be at Lake Forest Memorial Park immediately following the funeral services.

Ruth Poole

Ruth Poole, 88, of Jasper, passed away Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Pruitt Health. She was born June 7, 1930 to E.J. and Hattie Moss in Jasper.  

Ruth is survived by her son, Jerry Randall Poole of Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Heather Poole of Jasper; grandchildren, Griffin Poole of Jasper, Fletcher Poole of Jasper; daughter-in-law, Jackie Poole of Jasper; step-grandchildren, Jake Holden of Jasper, Brad Holden of Jasper, April Holden of Jasper, Curtis Holden of Jasper; brother and sister-in-law, James and Peggy Moss of Dallas, Georgia; sister, Minnie Lee Raynes of Jasper; sisters-in-law, Barbara Moss of Winder and Margie Moss of Jasper.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Avert Poole; and sons, Danny Edward Poole and Steve Michael Poole.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 3, 2019 at the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home  with Reverend Ben Mock officiating.   Interment will follow in Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will be receiving friends at Roper Funeral Home, Wednesday, January 2 from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Thursday, January 3, 2019 from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m.
