Virgil Gray Jr. 

Virgil Conway Gray Jr., 97,  passed away Thursday, February 28, 2019 at his home in Jasper.  He was born January 10, 1922 to Virgil and Myrtle Gray Sr. in Atlanta, Georgia.  He proudly served his country during World War II in the Pacific and received a Purple Heart for his service.

Virgil is survived by his wife, Mary Delores Gray of Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Duriece and Buddy Capano of Jasper; son, Darrell L. Gray of Jasper; grandchildren, Heather Dailey of Jasper, Tyler Gray of Marietta, and Brittany Anderson of Acworth.

He was preceded in death by son, Virgil Conway Gray III; brother, Jack Gray; and sister, Marie Kenney.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Karen Cross, Ordained Minister, officiating. Interment will follow at Georgia National Cemetery with the graveside service beginning at 3 p.m.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.

Ruth Wall

Ruth Marie Wall, 89, of Jasper, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Pruitt Health Care in Jasper.  She was born September 7, 1929 to George and Flora Masten in Elkin, North Carolina.  

Ruth taught English and Latin in North Carolina for 36 years. Following the death of her husband Allan in 1991, she made Jasper her home.  Ruth soon became active with numerous community organizations, among them Mountainside Hospital Auxiliary, Retired Teachers, and the Historical Society. She was recognized as Pickens County Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 2013, for which she was immensely proud.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Alanna and Roy Kulland of Spring, Texas; granddaughter, Kirsten Kulland of Austin, Texas; grandson, Gage and Brittany Kulland of Spokane, Washington; great-granddaughters, Georgiana Kulland and Josephine Kulland.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Allan Wall and her parents, George and Flora Masten.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 8, 2019 at Fellowship Presbyterian Church of Jasper with Ben Laughlin officiating.   

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Mountainside Cardiac Center or St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Elene Martin

Elene Bunch Martin, 84, of Fairmount, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Tranquility Hospice at Cobb.  

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Mike Kimbrell of Powder Springs, Denise and Bobby Wester of Lithia Springs; son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Em Childers of Douglasville; adopted son of her heart, Stanley Comeau; brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond and Shirley Bunch of Jasper, Allan and Cathy Bunch of Fairmount; sisters, Faye Ward of Douglasville, Norene Smith of Calhoun; sisters-in-law, Mary Bunch of Fairmount, Barbara Bunch of Fairmount; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 2, 2019  at the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Fred Blalock officiating.
