Jethel Chumbley
Jethel W. Chumbley, age 91 of Dawsonville, died Monday August 10, 2009 at Northside Forsyth Hospital following a short illness.
Born April 27, 1918 in Pickens County to the late Robert E. Lee and Elizabeth Walker, she moved to South Georgia as a teenager and then to Dawson County where she lived for over 70 years. Mrs. Chumbley was a homemaker and a member of Juno Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Odum Chumbley; son, Duren Chumbley; eight brothers and four sisters.
Surviving are her children, Clinton and Sarah Chumbley, and Janice Canup, all of Dawsonville, and Judy and Bill Abercrombie, Gainesville; daughter-in-law, Eunice Chumbley, Dawsonville; sister, Pat Cox, McRae, Ga; grandchildren, Trina and Steve Brown, Tony and Ted Canup, Andy and Sarah Kate Abercrombie, Eric and Brandi Abercrombie; great- grandchildren, Dennis, Tina, Michael and C.J. Brown and Ansleigh Abercrombie.
The funeral service was held Thursday, August 13 at 4 p.m. from Juno Baptist Church with the Revs. Dennis Bottoms and Tim Biddy officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Kenneth Hendrix
Mr. Kenneth Hendrix, age 65 of Ranger, passed away Tuesday morning, August 11, 2009 at Gordon Health Care Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Hendrix was born Nov. 16, 1943 in Pickens County, the son of the late Leonard and Beatrice Chastain Hendrix. He was also preceded in death by brothers, J.L. and Marshall Hendrix. During his lifetime, he was employed in the construction industry and was a member of Sonora Lodge #221 F&AM.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Scott McLaughlin, Dandridge, Tn.; son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Dondra Hendrix, Fairmount, Ga.; sister, Margie Duvall, Ila, Ga.; brothers, Renith and Marvin Hendrix, both of Ranger, Ga.; and grandchildren, Dawson and Donovan Hendrix. Aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The funeral service was held Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home with Pastor Junior Clayton officiating. Singing was arranged by New Hope Trio. Pallbearers were: Marshall Dwayne, Randell Scott and Clinton Hendrix, Charlie and Clinton Long and Junior Densmore. Masonic brethren served as honorary pallbearers. Interment followed in Haven of Rest Memorial Park Cemetery.

Zania Hooks
Mrs. Zania Louise Hooks, age 61 of Jasper, Ga., died Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at Wellstar-Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Ga. following a period of declining health.
Born Dec. 18, 1947 in Tate, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Fred Lee Anderson, Sr. and Hilda Mackey Anderson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lambert Hooks; and mother-in-law, Pinkie Hampton. Mrs. Hooks had worked as a seamstress with the H. D. Lee plant and was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Tate.
Survivors include her daughter, Loretta Anderson, Mableton, Ga.; son, Sidney Hooks, Ball Ground, Ga.; granddaughters, Shalanda Palmore and Shalonda Bowden; sisters, Marshalette Hampton, Mableton, Ga., and Sheila Strickland, Dallas, Ga.; brothers, Fredrick Anderson, Tate, and Michael Anderson, Austell, Ga.; and father-in-law, Lonnie Hampton, Nelson, Ga. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 15 from Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Tate. The Rev. Scott McClure officiated. Interment followed in Lake Forest Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Clyde Davis, Jeff McCowan, David Hampton, Chad Hooks, Grey Stanley, Anthony Stephens and Brad Hooks. Roper Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Robert Kelly
Mr. Robert Kelly, age 91 of Canton and formerly of Chesterton, In., passed Tuesday morning, August 11, 2009 at the Terraces of Riverstone in Canton, Ga.
Survivors include his sons, Robert E., Jr., Melborn, Fl., and Terry Kelly, South Bend, In.; daughter, Jacqueline Evans, Jasper; and sister, Ruth Creager, Murietta, Ca. Five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.
Mr. Kelly was cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date in Indiana. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Chad Timms
Mr. Chad Timms, age 35 of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2009 as the result of an auto accident.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Timms, Lawrenceville; father, Larry Timms, Nelson; mother, Judy Bearden Dospoy, Saginaw, Mi.; grandparents, Bennie Timms, Nelson, and Eva Bearden, Dahlonega; son, Brandon Timms, Ball Ground; daughter, Meadow Timms, Lawrenceville; and sister, Lori Timms, Jasper.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 16 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Daniel Reeves officiating. Interment followed in Lake Forest Memorial Park in Jasper. Pallbearers were: Sam Reeves, Luther Christian, Robby Everett, Chris and Jerry Holbrook, Ricky Joe Eaton, Alex Davis and Rodney Brock.

Sandra Phillips
Mrs. Sandra Phillips, age 64 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Friday, August 14, 2009 at Grandview Health Care Center in Jasper.
Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her son, Carl Phillips. Other survivors include her husband, James C. Phillips, Waleska; children, James Robert Phillips, Buford, Jerry Phillips, Waleska, and Nasya Phillips, Woodstock; sisters, Laura ?Kay? Prichard, Jasper, Dura Waldrop, Dawsonville, Cathy Mooney, Dahlonega, and Reba Yarbrough, Ball Ground. Four grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews also survive.
A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 16 from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Howard Strickland officiating. Mrs. Phillips was cremated.

Bennie Norton, Jr.
Dr. Bennie J. Norton, Jr. passed away Saturday, August 15, 2009.
Born in Lonoke, Ar. on Nov. 14, 1931, he joined the Air Force in 1951 and served in Korea from 1951-52. He was in the USAF Reserves from 1952-58. Dr. Norton then graduated first in his class from Emory University School of Dentistry in 1961. He then practiced dentistry in Smyrna for 35 years. He was very active in civic, religious and community activities while living in Smyrna and continued after he moved to Jasper. While living in Jasper, Dr. Norton served on the Board of Directors for Good Samaritan Health and Wellness Center. He was also director of the Dental Clinic for a term. What Dr. Norton enjoyed most was his volunteer work for the Baptist medical/dental fellowship of which he served on the executive committee. Dr. Norton went on 41 medical mission trips to 18 different countries.
Dr. Norton was preceded in death by his wife, Nell Rose Norton. He is survived by daughters, Tracey Orr and Angie Norton; son, Steve Norton, all of the Atlanta area; grandchildren, Greg, John and Blake Dungan, Hiram, Timothy J. Orr, Dawsonville, and D.J. and Amber Gilbert, Akron, Oh.; and great-grandchild, Gwyneth Gilbert, Akron, Oh.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, August 19 at 2 p.m. in the Sanctuary of the Smyrna First Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Kimmel officiating. Interment followed in Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery.
