Joseph Murray, Sr.
Joseph A. Murray, Sr., 73 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Monday, March 8, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Born to the late Hugh and Gertrude (Somers) Murray in Plainfield, N.J. in 1936, he attended St. John?s School in Dunellen, N.J .and St. Peter?s High School in New Brunswick, N.J. before entering the U.S. Air Force in 1954. Mr. Murray was a brick mason by trade and a member of the Plainfield and Somerville Bricklayers Unions. Projects included several apartment buildings and shopping centers in the Central New Jersey area. Mr. Murray continued his education by taking classes at Rutgers the State University of New Jersey for Building Regulations. In the late 1970?s, he became the building inspector and code enforcer for the Borough of Dunellen, prior to moving to Jasper in 1981, where he has lived for the past 29 years. Mr. Murray was a retired State Resident Engineer with the Georgia State Finance and Investment Commission where he worked for 16 years. Projects under Mr. Murray?s supervision were the Olympic Village, Graduate Housing at Georgia Institute for Technology, North Georgia College & State University, Dahlonega, and Amicalola Falls Lodge and Conference Center. Prior to working as a state inspector, Mr. Murray owned the Pizza Box in Ellijay, Ga.
Mr. Murray worked as a brick mason on the following buildings in the Atlanta area: the Marriott Marquis and the Georgia World Congress Center.
Mr. Murray was a communicant and founding member of Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church in Jasper. He served as a Eucharistic Minister bringing Holy Communion to the sick and those in nursing homes, as well as being an active member of the Men?s Club. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus at both the John Barry Council #2544 of Dunellen and Council #14348 in Jasper.
Gypsy Joe, as he was known to those who loved him, enjoyed traveling and visiting with his family and friends and had many special times down at the Jersey Shore. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Richard, Hugh, Francis and Robert Murray; and sisters, Eleanor Hugenbruch and Terese King.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Rose Marie, children, Joseph A. Jr. and wife Joan Short, Raritan, N.J., Michelle and husband Tony Cruce, Suches, Ga., Jayne Murray and Nadine and husband James Harrison, all of Jasper, and Amy and her husband Andrew Schmalen, Dahlonega, Ga.; grandchildren, Jacob, Alicia and Matthew Bailey, Jamison, Nicholas and Emily Cruce, Patrick, Mary, Andrew, John Paul, Killian, Teresa and Catherine Harrison and Andy Schmalen, Jr.; brothers, James and wife Myra, Center Valley, Pa., Donald and wife Ruth, Watchung, N.J., and Eugene, Palm Beach, Fl.; brother-in-law; William Hugenbruch, Conyngham, Pa.; sisters-in-law, Mary Kaiser Murray and Mary Renda Murray, both of Green Brook, N.J., and Lucy Mines Murray, Marietta, Ga., as well as numerous nieces and nephews. His funeral was held Friday, March 12 from Roper Funeral Home in Jasper, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church, Jasper. Burial followed in Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Ga. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Our Lady of the Mountains Building Fund, 1908 Waleska Hwy. 108, Jasper, Ga. 30143.

Robert Jordan
Mr. Robert E. Jordan, age 59 of Ball Ground, passed away on March 9, 2010.
Mr. Jordan was a painter and member of Fairview Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Jordan, Ball Ground; children, Kevin Jordan, Ellijay, Melissa Childers, Jasper, Kim Perry and Travis Jordan, both of Smyrna, and Hollie Thompson, Jasper; and grandchildren, Andon Lee and Kilee Marie Jordan, Abigail Riley Thompson, Kasey and Kyle Jordan, Laken Padgett and Ashton Childers.
The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 11 from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Tony Greene, Horace Biddy and James Thompson officiating. Interment was in Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery.

Hobert Ratcliff
Mr. Hobert Ratcliff, age 75 of Jasper, formerly of Canton, passed away March 9, 2010 at his residence.
Survivors include his daughters, Cheryl Jarrard, Jasper, Pamela Homiller, Ball Ground, and Cynthia Fowler. Canton; brothers, Clifton, Troy, Lee and Weldon Ratcliff all of Waleska, and Wayne Ratcliff, Ellijay; and sisters, Katie Chester, Waleska, Betty Lawrence, Canton, Martha Blanton, Ball Ground, and Patsy Towery, Holly Springs. Ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Friday, March 12 at 11 a.m. from Darby Huey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Hogan officiating. Interment was in Goshen Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mary Ellen Padgett
Mary Ellen Padgett of Ball Ground, Ga. went to be with her Lord on Friday, March 5, 2010.
Mary was a loving and devoted wife, mother grandmother, sister and friend to many. Along with her devotion to her family and church, Mary (Mrs. Padgett) was extremely dedicated to educating and mentoring children as a first grade teacher for her entire career. Mary began this career by beginning her education while working for Ball Ground Day Care and completed her degree while working as a para pro at Ball Ground Elementary. After receiving her degree from Reinhardt College and Brenau University, she began her tenure as a first grade teacher at Ball Ground Elementary where she retired in 2005.
Survivors include her husband, Huey Padgett; daughter and grandson, Anita and Elijah Gurley; son, daughter-in-law and granddaughters, Travis, Holly, Anna and Laurie Padgett; and sisters, Dorothy Wiggington Barbara Holden, Frances Sullens, Carol Kime and Pam Chastain. Numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members who were so important to Mary and her life also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 8 from Whitestone Baptist Church with the Revs. Mark Johnson and Cory Rich officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Carlton Trout, Tim and Eric Duncan, Tony Padgett, Robert Kime and Zack Chastain. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family sincerely thanks everyone for the thoughts and prayers that have been extended during Mary?s (Mama?s) over two-year battle with cancer.

Janie Morgan
Mrs. Janie Sue Morgan, age 67 of Woodstock, passed away Friday, March 12, 2010 at her residence.
Mrs. Morgan was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She was a loving wife, mom and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Dorothy Massey and Anne Greene Perkins. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Lloyd Morgan; children, Trina (Randall) Young, Talking Rock, Rennette (Steve) Jenks, Jasper, and Dwayne (Angie) Morgan, Darron (Rhonda) Morgan, Marc (Amanda) Morgan and Donald Spivey, all of Woodstock. Ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 15 from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Nathan Brandon, Vernie Worley and Leon Goodwin officiating. Interment was in Mill Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Harold Mulkey
Mr. Harold Mulkey, age 47 of Dawsonville, passed Friday, March 12, 2010 at his residence.
Survivors include his mother, Stella Mae Mulkey, Dawsonville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Patsy, Richard and Mandy and Donald and Peggy Mulkey, all of Dawsonville; and sisters and brother-in-law, Barbara Perry, Dawsonville, and Pamela and Mark Niman, Jasper. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 15 from Gospel Temple in Ball Ground with the Revs. Butch Roberts and Don Williams officiating. Interment followed in Lake Forest Memorial Park in Jasper. Pallbearers were: Darren, Derek, Dwayne and Scott Mulkey, Billy Jarrett and Ricky Helton. The family did receive flowers or you make donations to help with the funeral expenses. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mary Crowe
Mrs. Mary Crowe, age 76 of Marble Hill, passed away Friday, March 12, 2010 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Gerald Carlton, Trenton, Tn., and Debra and Charles Stanfield, Jasper; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tommy Cantrell, Tate, Jackie and Colleen Cantrell, Nelson, Larry and Angie Cantrell, Jasper, and Lamar and Rachel Cantrell, Waleska; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Ramona and Art Gay, Florida, and Sue and Roy Boling, Jasper. Eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Mrs. Crowe was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Crowe; and sons, Gary, Jeff and B.C. Crowe.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 15 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Troy Redmond officiating. Interment followed in Free Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Allen Bell, Justin Carlton, Jeremy and Tyler Crowe, Harold Cantrell and William Payne.

Tony Carroll
Robert Anthony ?Tony? Carroll, age 18 of Jasper, Ga., passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2010, at the Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper following a sudden illness.
Born Jan. 19, 1992 in Pickens County, Tony had suffered with Muscular Dystrophy since birth.
Survivors include, his parents, Dawn and Neal Carroll, Jasper; grandparents, Wayne and Nancy Childers, Jasper, James and Peggy Moss, Dallas, Ga., T.O. and Annette Carroll, Tate, Ga., and David and Lila Faris, Ellijay, Ga.; great-grandmother, Mrs. Omada Childers, Jasper; and great-grandfather, Mr. Wallace McFarland, Somerset, Ky. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 17 from Jerusalem Baptist Church with the Revs. James Thompson and Nathan Smith officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends at Roper Funeral Home until the Funeral Hour on Wednesday.

Robert Jordan
Robert E. Jordan passed away March 9, 2010 after a lengthy illness.
Survivors include his wife, Judy; and children, Kevin Jordan, Melissa Childers, Kim Perry, Travis Jordan and Hollie Thompson. Seven grandchildren also survive.
