Jasper trees are changing

trees

The evergreen trees on Jasper's Main Street that people loved to hate are being removed to make room for crape myrtles. The block in the front of the Carriage House restaurant saw the change yesterday and city hall crews are tackling the block in front of the Bank of North Georgia this morning.

The old trees were better, fuller, lush with greenness that portended life. These are listless and brown and show demise or hibernation.

What would Charlie Brown say? Those aren't really such bad little trees at all

Yay!! I'll be glad to see those creepy trees go bye-bye. They looked odd and out of place in Jasper from the moment they were installed.

My daughters and I have commented Crepe Myrtles, with their colorful blossoms, would be a better look for Jasper's Main Street. They wouldn't overwhelm the sidewalks, and people in cars could still see the front windows of the merchants. As a bonus, you can still drape lights in Crepe Myrtles!

Bravo to whomever made the decision to go with the Crepe Myrtles.

[quote name="Dr. Crunk"]What would Charlie Brown say?

In 1865 the dang Yankees, like a lot of other things they did back then, renamed CRAP Myrtle to CREPE Myrtle

ALL TREES should be removed by the "city manager" and then reviewed by PROFESSIONAL HELP to ensure that soil, drought resistance, aesthetics and longevity are provided.. sinking a tree in and hope it sprouts is amateurish and shows incompetence. This is why we need real city manager that knows certain things need outside consultation. Jasper will get no where with this nonsensical leadership.

Without lots of maintenance/tri mming they get quite large. Pretty but high maintenance. But then nobody asked my opinion.....
