Seniors fired up for tax relief

seniortax

It was a packed house at Chattahoochee Tech. where Pickens Seniors for Change held a meeting about senior tax exemption. The group’s leader says seniors are “taxed into poverty.”

Last week nearly 140 people showed up for a meeting hosted by the advocacy group Pickens Seniors for Change, which wants to see property tax exemptions for senior homeowners.

The meeting, held on Tuesday, April 18th, was attended by Pickens’ State Senator Steve Gooch and Pickens County School Board members Daniel Bell and Katherine White.

The advocacy group’s leaders have been pushing for changes to the county’s current exemption policy for several years. Pickens currently offers a full exemption for residents over 62 who have a household income of less than $25,000.

Quoting Daisy May:
CONGRATULATIONS NIGHTMARE

You are winning the negatives race. you hava even topped Pinto. who is now a has-bin.

Keep up the good work and you may make County
Commissioner or better yet - Tax Assessor

Can someone please decipher this train wreck of a post into plain English for me? I think it mentions my name and I would like to respond meaningfully, but I'm afraid I don't understand whatever code he or she is typing in

It's also amusing that someone complaining about school taxes can't spell .... "has-bin"? Looks like tax money was wasted in their case.

Thank you Daisy may, coming from you I know now I am on the right track. The fact that your edumacation is evidently lacking and that you try to hurl insults because you don't agree with my opinion shows me just how special you are.

And Sad Sack, (I'm not going to write it the way you did as I can't lower my grammar that way), I'm glad you think I am bitter over the election. You are quite right I am bitter. Not for the reasons you suggest though. I am bitter because NONE of you thought this election through. None of you were actually concerned with the country. You were only concerned with a letter behind a name. I'm bitter because you failed to do your civic duty and failed to have your candidate properly vetted. There is no partisan politics coming from me. Only disappointment in my neighbors.

Poor, simple, sweet Pinto. Cut the woman some slack. She obviously had a typo, and, if I may, what she most likely meant was you are a Harbin, which I am sure you recognize as a resident of, and the name of the capital city of, Heilongjiang province in China. With your name Pinto, she probably thought you took it as an homage to Pin'tu, famous Chinese scholar, who once stated, "government is government and business is business," thus launching the culture club revolution of the 1980s.

I'm baaaaaaaaaaack! Every county in North Georgia has a senior exemption and Pickens does as well. However Pickens does not and has not adjusted it to the 21st century. it is still in the 1970's economy. It works in other counties and it will work here. The very fact that properties are taxed on "value" is socialist. So get over it. otherwise we should all pay the same property tax, we all use the same roads and sit at the same lights.

Shut up and pay your taxes, kitty. No exemption for you!

I do pay my taxes. But why does someone with a bigger house pay higher taxes ? esp if they have no kids in the school system? We only use the roads, we have no trash pick up, no fire station and really unless we call the Sheriff's Dept 1x every 5 years for some barking dogs, that's the only use we get out of that. So there should be a flat rate for property taxes--all pay the same tax. We all use the same services. Or should we start counting how many times I drive on county roads?

You call the Sheriff when dogs bark? WTH??? What an idiot.I wish you'd pick a road and drive out of the county on it. Permanently.
