Things could be taking off at the Pickens County Airport, according to the state's "go to" airport engineer.

The county airport with its 66-68 mostly small single planes, has crept into the ranking as the 22nd airport in Georgia in the number of based planes. With planned expansions, the airport could be in the top 15 within a few years, bringing economic development opportunities to the area, according to the speaker at the Chamber of Commerce’s breakfast meeting Tuesday.

Phil Eberly, president of Lead Edge Design Group and the contracted engineer for the county airport, told Chamber members, “there is a lot of super positive stuff happening at the airport.”
