Mayor & council clash at Jasper meeting

Jasper Mayor John Weaver, right, and council member Jim Looney got into a heated discussion during the July council meeting.

For the second consecutive month, Jasper Mayor John Weaver and members of the city council butted heads over a few items on the agenda.

At this month’s council meeting, held Monday, June 10th, council member Jim Looney and the mayor were most visibly at odds, with tempers flaring at several points during the evening. The main item of contention was the possible purchase of a new skid steer, which Mayor Weaver brought before council last month but was not approved.

I cannot believe what I am reading! There's finally someone on the council who dares to question the Almighty Johnny?? And that person is Jim Looney, previously known as the biggest Yes Man the mayor has ever had?? Hell hath surely frozen over!

Better yet someone run against him -- and win. Plenty of people talk big about how they want to see Mr. Weaver gone, yet he keeps winning by huge margins.

And hey in this country top vote getter wins -- unless you are talking president where Ms. Clinton pretty well cleaned Mr. Trump's clock and still lost.
But anyway, if this man is so bad, why does he keep winning? My guess -- people whining are not the same as people voting and we know what counts.

It's not some conspiracy that Weaver is Mayor. He wins fair and square because the voters of Jasper like him -- so take that.

Remy, The mayor wins through veiled threats, intimidation and talking down to folks that don't know any better. It's a little hard to beat someone threatening to put your job or business at risk and leak out shameful information. Hopefully the city voters can see beyond the veil and be able to move ahead. I wonder who's the mayor's "Remy".

Yes, Scarlet and Steve Folsom stood up to the mayor and won finally with the Georgia Supreme Court and all 9 judges agreeing but the mayor changed the City Ordinance so that no business operating as the Blue Rodeo Cafe could be profitable in the city limits of Jasper. If you stand up to the Weaver Mafia make sure you have nothing to lose. When the mayor closed the Blue Rodeo Cafe it hurt the other businesses by 30% and the largest crime and domestic violence was reported in history hit Jasper and Pickens County. Tax revenue hit rock bottom in 2003, 2004 and nobody talked about it.

The Pickens Progress is part of the Weaver Mafia and does not tell the truth because of the fear they have of "freedom of speech" doesn't apply to them due to the whiplash from the Weaver's.
