Jasper’s Night of Lights Saturday

Full evening of downtown holiday events start at 4 p.m.

Night-of-Lights-cut

The Jasper Merchants Association is hard at work to bring you an even bigger and better 11th annual Night of Lights / Parade of Lights Christmas Celebration this Saturday, December 2. Santa Claus is coming to town to visit all the children of Pickens County to make sure he has his naughty and nice list correct before he brings all the presents on Christmas Eve. Santa will be out front of the Pickens County Courthouse starting at 4 p.m. to just after 6 p.m. where he will come and join the Parade of Lights to head back home to the North Pole. This is a rain or shine event and in the case of rain, Santa Claus will move from outdoors to inside at Moore Furniture Store located across from the County Courthouse.

The Night of Lights Celebration that will take place on N. Main Street in Downtown Jasper and will begin at 4 p.m. with entertainment on the Main Street stage in front of the Pickens County Courthouse. Entertainment this year is presented by Jasper’s local hometown radio station; WYYZ The Croc 1490AM and 102.7FM. Performing on the Main Street stage starting at 4 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. will be the Jasper Middle School Dynamics. Then at 4:30 p.m. we will have the extremely talented Hamrick & Haynes performing. Next will be Lawton Baggs reading a classic Christmas story for the children starting at 5:30 p.m. At 5:50 p.m. will be the lighting of the Pickens County Christmas tree with Grand Marshal Richard Wynn; Commandant Marine Corp League counting us down to the lighting the tree along with McKenzie Grams signing as we light the tree.

The Christmas marketplace this year will be on N. Main Street with craft vendors being centered on the  courthouse and all of the food, drinks, and snack vendors to be located in spaces on both sides of N. Main Street. You can expect to find local food vendors like ALL-A-CART Mobile Food Vendor (hot chocolate); Petey’s Mini Donuts (donuts, hot chocolate & coffee); Two Daughter’s Bakery (cakes, cupcakes, cookies, pies & cake pops); Dough Boys Cakes & Catering (cupcakes).

Besides great food and something warm to drink, you can also find some really great gift ideas for those on your shopping list from local vendors, as well as all the downtown Jasper Merchants up and down N. & S. Main Street will be open as well during the event so you can shop local and buy local this holiday season.

Toys For Tots will have a toy collection vehicle in front of the Main Street stage for those wanting to donate a new toy for a child in need this Christmas.

Our Grand Marshal is Richard Wynn, commandant with the Marine Corp League and a local school teacher that loves guiding the minds of the elementary students he works with. Our Honorary Grand Marshall this year is Betty Burford and her team of employees at Wingsology. They have become very involved with the community by volunteering for events and helping with plans to help keep downtown Jasper thriving. All of our Grand Marshals this year will lead off the Parade of Lights by riding in vehicles provided by Day’s Chevrolet.

The Christmas celebration then shifts with the clearing of Main Street and the start of the 11th anniversary of the Parade of Lights Celebration which starts promptly at 6 p.m. The Parade of Lights will start at N. Main Street and Old Federal Road and continue south on N. Main Street and cross over Hwy 53 and onto S. Main Street and then turn right onto Spring Street where the parade ends. The theme for this year’s Parade of Lights is, “Candyland”. Those entered into the Parade of Lights will compete for “1st, 2nd, and 3rd for Best Theme” and for the overall “Best in Show” traveling trophy.
