Since they were chartered in 1939, the Jasper Lions Club has organized the annual Independence Day Celebration.  What started out as a small event held on Main Street has now become a much larger, multi-day schedule of festivities.

The rides will open Friday, June 29, and run through Wednesday, July 4.  On Wednesday, July 4, the day’s festivities will start at 10 a.m. with the parade on Main Street.  Anyone who wants to participate in the parade may do so by bringing your application/parade fee that morning, beginning at 8:30 a.m.  Sign-in will take place on Spring Street behind Jasper United Methodist Church. Grand Marshals for this year’s parade are Russell Pendley and Doris Martin, both WW II veterans.

The entertainment at the park after the parade will kick off with the Town Band, a local tradition for over 30 years.  Led by Dr. Carl McCurdy, the Town Band will offer patriotic favorites and rousing marches. If you would like to participate in the Town Band, dust off that horn at meet on stage at the park at 10:30 a.m.  After the opening ceremony, the afternoon is filled with local talent that will be fun for all ages.  Stone Cold will perform from 7 – 10 p.m.

Each night that the rides are open, the Lions will be there selling tickets on a chance to win a weekend at Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.  The prize also includes four two-day tickets to Dollywood and a $500 gift card. Tickets are $5 each, and the proceeds will help fund the Lions’ local projects throughout the year, such as Fill-a-Stocking, eye exams and glasses, and much more.  The Lions will be on hand each of the days the rides are open, and ticket will be sold until 9:55 p.m. on July 4th. You do not have to be present to win.

The drawing for the raffle prize will take place at 10 p.m., followed by the best fireworks display in North Georgia. Bring a chair or a blanket and head to Lee Newton Park on the 4th - come spend the day and enjoy the 80th Annual Jasper Lions Independence Day festivities!
