Pepperoni, Pasta and...PRESLEY; what more could you ask for in one evening. The Sassafras Literary Exchange has as its special guest, a speaker who among other things, Elvis Presley's girlfriend. This fascinating lady has lived several dreams and at last, has published a book sharing some of her experiences.
The Sassafras Literary Exchange is honored to host Diana Goodman McDaniel as their speaker on Monday night August 6th. This meeting will be held at I Love New York Pizza located at 50 Depot Street, right beside the Court House. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. This should be a mesmerizing event for Sassafras and anyone who would chose to come by. The public is invited.
In addition to being the girlfriend of the King, Ms. Goodman appeared in many episodes of the long running TV show, Hee-Haw. She says that she especially enjoyed being one of the “Honeys in the Kornfield.” Besides working with many of Nashville's recording artist, she knew a lot of Hollywood stars. The book's title, “Hollywood Lights and Nashville Nights,” should be impetus enough to collect readership.
While all this should be enough for several lifetimes, there's more. After moving to Pickens County, she and her husband, the late Roger McDaniel saw a need. The large contingent of home schooled youth in the area had no sports program. The McDaniels worked tirelessly to put together a sports program which is still going strong today. Our area has benefited greatly from their presence.
If you're only going out to hear one speaker or out for pizza one night this year, this would be the time. Six-thirty p.m. Monday, August 6th at I Love New York Pizza.
