Murder/suicide being investigated in Dawson County

 

The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspected murder/suicide that occured early  morning of January 2. 

The deceased have been identified as Ralph Mathews, 58, and Stacy Mathews, 53, both of Dawsonville. Mr. Mathews was a long-time employee of Amicalola EMC who worked out of the Jasper office. 

        At approximately 5:45 a.m. that Wednesday, the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office 911 Center received a call regarding a shooting on Crane Road in Dawson County.

According to Dawson County Sheriff Jeff Johnson, upon officers arrivial deputies located Mr. and Mrs. Mathews, a married couple, deceased at the residence. 

“The initial investigation appears to indicate a murder/suicide, however the investigation is ongoing,” Sheriff Johnson told the Progress. “At this time, we cannot comment on the specifics of the investigation as this is an open and active case. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the family and friends during this time.”

The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are investigating the incident.
