A new website, www.northgapolitics.com launched in late June will provide voters with a unbiased source on who is running for what in Georgia’s 9th Congressional District. The site will include rosters of who has announced candidacies in state house, senate, statewide positions and in the congressional race. The site was prompted by a question to the Pickens Progress about which race Bill Stephens was in. There simply wasn’t a spot where voters could find out quickly what the former State Senate Majority Leader was running for and who had announced they were running against him. This year the 9th Congressional District has seen an upheaval with longtime Congressman Nathan Deal announcing his intention to seek the office of governor and the subsequent announcements that State Rep. Tom Graves, former DOT Chairman Mike Evans and Stephens among others will seek Deal’s seat in Washington. The site, created by the weekly newspaper Pickens County Progress and KnowPickens.com will serve as a clearinghouse for information on who is running in the races for state positions as well as the Congressional races for both parties in the 9th district. The site will provide regular news updates on the races and post press releases from the campaigns, as a way to let voters know what the candidates are saying in their own words. The site will also feature links to the candidates’ web sites.
