A seven month old Saint Bernard was shot and killed Saturday August, 15 by a Pickens County Animal Control Officer, the first fatal use of force as part of the county’s new animal control program. Dog owner Keith Ray, of Northside Drive, contacted the Progress with a lengthy letter stating his dog, Lucky, “was needlessly shot in cold blood,” by animal control deputy, Jeff Waggoner. You can read Ray’s full letter in our “Letters to the Editor” section. “We live in a quaint and quiet little biddy neighborhood where our dog was loved by everyone,” Ray said in his letter, “and now he is gone for no good reason at all…When the young officer arrived Lucky was looking to play as he never ever showed any sign of aggression to anyone and as he galloped towards the officer the policeman then pulled out his billy club which was nothing more than a sign of play for Lucky. Sadly his last act of love was returned with a shot from the policeman’s gun.” See page 1A of the August 27th edition for the full story. |
