Pickens schools are tracking cases of flu that are confirmed among the student body as the number of absences tied to the virus may be needed later for state reports. Surprising in the records at this point is that one campus, Harmony Elementary, has seen three times as many flu cases as any other campus. Thus far, 60 students have been absent this year due to confirmed flu cases. Attendance Officer Shelley Cantrell said they don’t differentiate whether it’s the H1N1 strain of the flu or the seasonal strain.
