Myrtle McArthur
    Mrs. Myrtle J. McArthur, 89, of Talking Rock, Ga. formerly of Ellijay, died Wednesday April 13 ,2016.
    Mrs. McArthur was born April 12, 1927 in Gilmer County, the daughter of the late Robert and Lear Chapman Rogers. She worked for many years for Pickens Footwear, was a homemaker and of the Baptist Faith.
    She is preceded in death by her husband, Herman David McArthur and son Herman David McArthur, Jr.
    Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Charlotte McArthur, Oxford, Ga.; Jerry and Andrea McArthur, Dalton; Carol McArthur, Jasper; grandchildren, Kimberly Steele, Melanie Gibson, Blake, Wade and David McArthur, nine great-grandchildren and brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Geraldine Rogers.
    Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Foskey and Rev. Donnie Caylor officiating. Music was by Julie Whitworth.
    Pallbearers were: Blake McArthur, Wade McArthur, David McArthur, James Steele, Steve Gibson, Max Richards
    Interment was in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Jasper.

Martiele Y. Dunn
August 25, 1933 - April 12, 2016

    Mrs. Martiele Dunn, 82, of Jasper, passed away Tuesday April 12, 2016 at The Oaks at Post Rd., Cumming, GA.
    Mrs. Dunn is survived by her husband, Lee Dunn of Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Terry Dunn of Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Christi and Doug Blackwell of Gainesville; grandchildren, Dereck and Brent Dunn, Nicholas and wife Elyse Blackwell, and Bethany and husband David Lind; great-grandchildren, Micah Lind, Eli Lind, and Ridge Blackwell.
    The funeral service was held at 2:30 pm Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Jasper United Methodist Church with Revs. Gerald Thurman, Max Caylor, and Greg Meadows officiating. Pallbearers served: Bill Pickett, Dereck Dunn, Brent Dunn, Nicholas Blackwell, Johnny Cagle, Mike Denson, and Eddie Duncan. Honorary Pallbearers were Jasper Banking Co. Board Members, the nurses at The Oaks at Post Rd., and the nurses of Crossroads Hospice. Interment at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
    The family requests in lieu of flowers donate to the organ fund at Jasper United Methodist Church.

Landon Stokes
    Landon Stokes, 90, of St. Petersburg, passed away on April 16, 2016. Born in Jasper, Ga., he is preceded in death by his wife, Claudia Louise (Tyson) Stokes; parents, Hillya G. and Alma Stokes; brothers, Grady Hugh Stokes, Winston M. Stokes; and grandson, Timothy Eric Wolfe.
    Landon served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a skilled wood craftsman, mechanic and was an all-around handyman. Landon was a dedicated member of Clearview Baptist Church where he was known for his selfless service.
    He is survived by his four children, Michael E. Stokes (Terry), Karen S. Tyson, Judy K. Hussey, Linda S. Hobbs (Bob); seven grandchildren, Rachel Fisher, Jeffrey Hamilton, Sarah Clevenger, Stephan Hobbs, Kaitlyn Stokes, Nathan and  Tessa van Haaren; three great-grandchildren Anastasia Hamilton, Keegan and Nathan  Clevenger.
    The funeral service was held  on Tuesday, April 19 at 11 a.m. at Anderson McQueen Funeral Home.

Madora Thompson
February 21, 1924 - April 17, 2016

    Mrs. Medora Rebecca Clark Thompson, 92, of Jasper, passed away at her home on April 17, 2016. Medora was born in Rauchtown, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania on February 21, 1924; the oldest of two children of Elmer Edison Clark and Henrietta Grace Welshans Clark. She was raised on the family farm in Oval, PA and graduated from high school in Jersey Shores, PA.
    She married Guy Harold Thompson on December 22, 1946. In 2013 they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. They had one daughter, Linda Susan Thompson Warren, who passed away in 1989.
    She was a member of the Murphy Christian Fellowship, Murphy, NC. In 2003 they moved to the Jerusalem Community from Hayesville, NC.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her only child. She is survived by her adopted family, Barbara Murphy Crane, Alan Crane and Bill and Caren Crane Tollner, her brother, Robert Clark of Pennsylvania, five nieces and one nephew.
    The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 from the chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Wheatcroft officiating. Pallbearers served: Pat Margo, Ray Cadwallader, Bob Payne, Bobby Cook, Ray Zimmerman, and Norman Zimmerman. Interment at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.

Jobeth Yarbrough
December 12, 1937 – April 16, 2016

    Mrs. Jobeth Freeman Yarbrough, 78, of Big Canoe, passed away Saturday morning, April 16, 2016 at her home.  As one of the original planners of Good Samaritan, Mrs. Yarbrough volunteered countless hours serving the needs of the people in her community.  In 2014, she received the Joseph D. Greene Community Service Award for her compassion and unselfish efforts to improve the health of all Georgians.
    She is survived by her husband, Harry Yarbrough of Big Canoe; son and daughter-in-law, Boyd and Lisa Yarbrough of Cleveland, OH; grandchildren, Ambra Yarbrough and Tyler Yarbrough; and sister, Inda Shirley. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sonya Yarbrough Gee.
    The funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Tuesday at the Big Canoe Chapel with Rev. Lamar Helms and Rev. Lynn Walker officiating. The interment followed in the Big Canoe Cemetery.

Mary Chumley
March 10, 1928 – April 18, 2016

    Mary Louise Chumley, 88, of Jasper, passed away Monday, April 18, 2016 at Pruitt Health in Jasper.  She was born March 10, 1928 to Dallas and Mabel Free in Jasper.
    She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Sarah and Paul Crowe of Tate, Wanda Sue and Jim Hunt of Jasper; grandchildren, Scott Caylor of Jasper, Alan Caylor (Tara) of Canton, Jeff Smith (Amy) of Jasper, Sheri Crowe of Tate, Greg Crowe (Latisha) of Ball Ground, Jimmy Hunt (Lisa Marie), Gary Hunt (Brandy); several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and Helen Free, Billy Free, Max and Pauline Free, Leon and Faye Free; sister, Marcelle Thacker; and several other family members.
    She was preceded in death by husband, Carl Chumley; daughter, Mary Carol Prather; granddaughter, Cindy Caylor Brown; son-in-law, Donald Lee Prather; grandson, Thomas Carl Smith; and great-grandson, Keith James Brown.
    Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Jerusalem Baptist Church with Reverend Alan Caylor, Reverend Buddy Roper, and Reverend Bobby McFarland officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
    The family will receive friends at Roper Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
