Kathryn Louise (Lou) O’Connell, 62, of Talking Rock left this world and entered into eternity on June 12, 2018. She fought a courageous fight and although we miss her terribly, we are so proud of the life she lived and the legacy she leaves behind.
Lou was born on September 20, 1955 in Marietta, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Homer Gregory and Georgia Ledbetter Gregory. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Velma Gregory Kendall formerly of Marietta.
Lou is survived by her husband of 34 years, Mike O’Connell of Talking Rock. She is also survived by their children, son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Rebecca Thurman of Talking Rock and daughter and son-in-law, Amber and Matt Cowley of Hale Center, Texas. There are four grandchildren surviving, Katie and Joey Thurman of Talking Rock and Jacob and Caleb Merrimon of Texas. She also leaves behind many friends and loved ones as well.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 2 p.m. on July 8, 2018 at Living Word Church, 215 Pioneer Industrial Blvd., Jasper, GA 30143. All families and friends are invited to join us as we celebrate her life.
Lou loved her home and her family. She adored the mountains and animals that surrounded her home. It was her request that instead of mourning her death that we celebrate her life. Although we miss her greatly, we know that she is at total peace in the presence of her Savior.
This is not a goodbye, but an I’ll see you soon for us.
Velma Jean James of Jasper, Georgia, 81, died in her home on Sunday, July 1, after a 10 year battle with multiple myeloma. She is survived by her husband Tommy James; daughter Teresa Brewer; son Alan Brewer; granddaughter Courtney Anderson and her husband Brian, and their two children, Chloe and Henry; her sisters Eva Hughes and Mary Thorne, and many nephews and nieces living in Arkansas.
She was born in Cushman, Arkansas, but lived most of her adult life in the metro Atlanta area. She moved to Jasper in 2004 and married Tommy in 2007.
Velma was an active member of Trinity Church of Marble Hill. She enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, and travelled extensively as an adult, including one visit to Europe via the Concord.
Her funeral and internment will take place in Jonesboro, Arkansas, with a memorial service at Trinity Church of Marble Hill to be held at a later date. Troyet Buchanan, 88, of Jasper, Georgia passed away Sunday, July 1, 2018 at his home. He was born December 8, 1929 to the late Hansel and Savilla Buchanan in Pickens County. Troyet was a member of Marble Hill Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Avis Barnett Buchanan; his brother, James Buchanan; his niece, Valerie Burgess; and his nephew, Ronnie Lawson.
Survivors include his sister-in-law, Willene Buchanan of Jasper; nephew, Charles and Marianne Lawson of Flagler Beach, Florida; great-niece, Sherry and David Woodall; great-nephew, David and Christi Lawson. A host of great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends also survive.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 3rd in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Bobby Padgett and Reverend Keith Barnes officiating. The interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Cartersville.
The family will be receiving friends at Roper Funeral Home Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour.

Bobby Joe Fleming, 82, of Jasper, Georgia, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital. Bobby was born June 13, 1936 to Joseph and Fannie Fleming in Culberson, North Carolina. He was a deacon at Bethany Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Williams Fleming of Jasper; children, Dianne and Terry Thomason of Jasper, Rena and Randy Kirk of Jasper, Joey Fleming and Stacey McGill of Jasper, Margaret Fleming Buchanan and Ed Buchanan of Jasper; grandchildren, Heather and Chad Goss, Hali and Patrick McPhee, Alison and Blake Loggins, Erika and Tommy Jones, Jodi and Zack Thomas, Parker Fleming, Charlie Joe Fleming, Alli McGill, Jacob Fleming, Sara and Justin Hamrick; 19 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by son, Jamie Fleming.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Roper Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Scott Price and Reverend Ed Sims officiating. The interment will follow in the Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery: Philadelphia Church Road, Jasper, GA 30143.

Mrs. Ovaline Wofford, 93, of Jasper passed away Friday, June 29, 2018 at Pruitt Healthcare of Jasper.
Mrs. Wofford is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry & Teresa Wofford of Jasper; sisters, Janie Moore of Canton and Frankie Atkins of Jasper; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Ovaline is preceded in death by her husband, Farris Wofford; daughter, Shirley Davis and granddaughter, Christi Wofford.
Funeral services were held Sunday July 1, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the Cagle Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Bobby McFarland and Rev. Wayne Wright officiating.
Pallbearers: James Morris, Stanley Morris, Troy Morris, Horace Wofford, Herbert Wofford and Dean Beasley.
Interment was at Sunrise Memorial Gardens immediately following the funeral services.

Carolyn is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Doug & Kim Ray of Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa & Stacy Lewis of Ellijay; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry & Shirley Ellis of Waleska; grandchildren, Brandon Ray & Kaleb Lewis.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 2, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the Cagle Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Shane Ellis officiating.
