David Turner

 

David Harrison Turner, 59, of Jasper, passed away Monday, February 3, 2020 at his home. He was born October 21, 1960 to Emory and Doris Turner in Tate, Georgia. 

David is survived by his wife, Beth Turner of Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Brock and Jessica Turner of Jasper; daughter, Sarah Turner of Ooltewah, Tennessee; mother, Doris Turner of Jasper; sister and brother-in-law, Kelly and Mike McArthur of Jasper; niece, Lila McArthur; and nephew, Clay McArthur. Several other family members also survive. He was preceded in death by his father, Emory Turner.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, February 6, 2020 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Evan Howell and Reverend Shane Stephenson officiating. Interment will follow at Lake Forest Memorial Park.

The family will be receiving friends at Roper Funeral Home, Wednesday, February 5 from 12 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Thursday, February 6 from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.

John Miller

 

John Daniel Miller, 71, of Pickens County, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, North Carolina.  He was born May 17, 1948 to Robert Crusaw and Helen Marie Miller in Blue Ridge, Georgia. He proudly served his country in the United States Army in Vietnam.

John is survived by his wife, Mikki Miller of Jasper; son, Christopher Shane Miller of Lagrange; daughter and son-in-law, Seana Miller Thompson and Charles Thompson of Ball Ground, Sharri Charlecia Miller Twyman of Jasper; grandchildren, Gretchen Rasco, Reuben Ronald and Macey Cooper Burnley, Lindsey Grace Thompson, Josie Caroline Thompson, Troy Wayde Twyman; brother and sister-in-law, Donald Edgar and Carol Miller of Blue Ridge; sister, Cathie Miller Hing of Jasper; sister and brother-in-law, Marjie Miller and Carter Devereaux of Blue Ridge.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Robert Crusaw Miller and Helen Marie Burnette Miller.

A Celebration of his life was held Sunday, February 2, 2020.   

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Administration in honor of Mr. Miller.

Stella Korowotny

 

Stella J. Korowotny, 91, passed away from natural causes on January 30, 2020 at her residence in Sonshine Manor in Jasper, GA.  

She was born in Scranton, PA in 1928, the youngest of eight siblings, to Jan and Stephania Yackowski. The family moved to Naugatuck, CT when Stella was in high school, where she later married Stanley J. Korowotny in 1947, and was a wonderful mother to her two children. She retired as a bookkeeper from Nutmeg Bakers Supply in the early 1990s, and moved to Canton, GA in 1998 following the death of her husband, to be nearer her children. She was a volunteer for many years at Northside Cherokee Hospital where she enjoyed greeting and assisting patients, before moving to Serenity Mountain Manor/Sonshine Manor four years ago.  

Stella is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and all seven brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra J. Russell and her husband, Doug, of Norwood, LA, by her son, Scott J. Korowotny, his wife, Jamie, and their son, Alex, and by numerous nieces and nephews. There will be a private graveside service for family and friends in Naugatuck, CT later this spring to inter her ashes beside her husband in the Polish National Catholic Cemetery.

Cris Criswell Jr.

June 4, 1933 - January 27, 2020

 

Mr. Vivian Clyde (Cris) Criswell Jr., of Jasper, passed away peacefully at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper, Ga. on Monday, January 27, 2020 surrounded by his family.

Mr. Criswell is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shirley; son, Vivian Clyde Criswell III of Benedicta, Maine; daughter, Susan (Christopher) Gantick of Jasper; his only grandson, Brian Gantick of Jasper; brother, James (Margaret) Criswell of Thomasville, AL; sister, Ruth (Phillip) Walker of Columbia, AL; sister-in-law, Darothy Mott of Jasper.

He proudly served 20 years in the U.S. Navy as Chief Petty Officer and spent 21 years as a mail carrier in the U.S. Post Office. He lived for 46 years in Ledyard, CT with his wife and children, then moved to Georgia with Shirley to live with his daughter and son-in-law in 2010.

He loved his church and his family and he will be sorely missed by all.

The family accepted flowers or donations to Talking Rock First Baptist Church in his memory.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 20, 2020 at Talking Rock First Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Kelley officiating.

Interment was at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 1 at Magnolia Cemetery in Mobile, Alabama.

Pallbearers: Brian Gantick, Jimmy Smith, Scott Kelley, Hunter Kelley, Larry Watson and Al Rappa.

Shirley Leslie

July 24, 1937 - January 29, 2020

 

Mrs. Shirley Leslie, 82, of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.

Mrs. Leslie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Charles Darwin of Jasper; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Roy Allen Leslie.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Palm City, Florida.

Anthony Chastain

 

Anthony Lynn Chastain,  54, of Ellijay, passed away Monday, February 3, 2020 at Piedmont Mountainside Ellijay. He was born September 29, 1965 to Joe and Beatrice Chadwick Chastain in Jasper. He  proudly served his country in the United States Navy.  He then served in law enforcement with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department for 27 years.

Lynn is survived by his wife, Shannon Chastain of Ellijay; daughter, Amanda Darby of Ellijay; son, Austin Chastain of Ball ground; daughter, Breanna Chastain of Canton; son, Kaden Chastain of Ellijay; son, Trey Adkins of Jasper; siblings, Larry and Mary Chastain of Ellijay; Carol and Stephen Bostick of Jasper; and his loving beagle, May.  Several nieces, nephews and friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Beatrice Chastain.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m.,  Monday, February 10, 2020 at Cool Springs Baptist Church with Reverend Steve Wigington officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.

The family will be receiving friends at Roper Funeral Home, Sunday, February 9 from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Monday, February 10 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.

Memorial contributions can be made to Cool Springs Baptist Church in his honor.

Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.
