Danny O’Shields

May 14, 1950 – July 15, 2020

 

John Daniel “Danny” O’Shields, 70, of Ball Ground, GA., passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mildred Williams O’Shields; his brother, David O’Shields.

  He is survived by his wife, Diane O’Shields; Step daughter, Leina (Jimmy) Douka; step son, Jordan (Andrea) Wall; grandchildren, Tristian Cook, Logan Hinton, Alyssa Douka, Elizabeth Wall, Ella Rose Wall and a blended family bound by love.

Memorial services were  held Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 3 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church with Dr. Scott Henderson.

Bill Fraker

Mr. William Heartsel “Bill” Fraker, 95, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2020 at The Retreat at Jasper.  He was born March 14,1925 in Whitfield County, Georgia to the late George Heartsel and Lula Byrd Fraker. He grew up in the Dawnville community and resided most of his life in Dalton before retiring to Ocala, Florida in 1987 and then to Big Canoe, Georgia in 1998.  He enjoyed being a resident of The Retreat at Jasper since its opening in September 2018.

Mr. Fraker was a proud World War II Veteran, having served in the First Calvary of the United States Army.  He was stationed in Luzon, Philippines and later participated in the Occupation of Japan where he spent time guarding the headquarters of General MacArthur.  In 2017 he took the Honor Flight with his daughter to visit the WWII Memorial in Washington, DC.

He spent most of his working career in the printing and book-binding business.  He had a true talent for rebinding old Bibles and books by hand and enjoyed doing this for many years after his retirement.  One of his proudest achievements in his career was being involved in the creation of the large Lookout Mountain Museum guest register, which held space for 200,000 signatures of guests visiting the tourist attraction.  

He was a charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Dalton and most recently a member of Big Canoe Chapel.

He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and was a friend to all he met.  

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Rosene Couch Fraker; parents, Heartsel and Byrd Fraker; brothers, Richard and Earnest Fraker; sisters, Dorothy Kendrick and Mary Hackney; nephew, James F. Fraker.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jon H. and Deanna Fraker of Big Canoe; daughter and son-in-law, Lynne and Jeff Dodson of Big Canoe; granddaughter, and husband Melissa and Brent Schofield of Suwanee; grandson, William Harrison “Will” Dodson of Big Canoe; great-grandchildren, Bonnie Katherine “Bonnie Kate” and Jonathan Kolbie “Jake” Schofield of Suwanee; nieces, Carolyn Cleveland, Nancy Cochran, and Karen Brown. Several great nieces and nephews also survive. 

Due to the current situation with Covid-19, there will be a private graveside service for immediate family in Whitfield Memorial Gardens in Dalton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of William H. Fraker to the North Georgia Veterans, 10923 Big Canoe, Jasper, GA 30143.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of The Retreat at Jasper and to Compassus Hospice of Ellijay for their dedicated and loving care of Bill.

 

Patsy Hefner

Patsy Hefner, 67, of Talking Rock, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at her home.  She was born November 18, 1952 to Joseph and Jewell Chester in Marietta, Georgia.  

She is survived by her husband, Paul Hefner of Talking Rock; children, Sandy and Clay Essig of Talking Rock, Johnny and Kristi Hefner of Talking Rock, Kelly and Shane Fendley of Jasper; siblings, Florine White of Talking Rock, Kenneth Chester of Jasper, Tony Chester of Jasper, Johnny Chester of Canton, Clifford Chester of Canton, Mattie Gathright of Jasper; grandchildren, Kelsey Essig, Kensley Essig, Abby Hefner, Paul Hefner, Mitch Wheeler, Charli Fendley, and Tyler Allen.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 18, 2020 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Kris Stancil officiating. Interment followed at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.  (1140 West Church Street, Jasper, GA 30143)

Carol Moore

 

Carol Moore, 79, of Talking Rock, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at her home.  She was born April 24, 1941 to Herman and Rachel McEachin in Macon, Georgia.  

Mrs. Moore is survived by her son, Anthony Babin; grandchildren, David M. Babin, Meagan Babin, Erica Clifford, Casandra Dustin; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Skyler, Chelsea, Katie, Phoebe, Chloe, Micah, Lana; sisters and brother, Dale Kiel, Tillie Lightfoot, Herman Stephen McEachin; step-daughter, Kelly Campbell; and step-son, Grady Moore.  Nieces, nephews and several other relatives also survive.  

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron Moore; sons, Eric Babin and Jimmy Babin.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home. Interment followed at 1 p.m. at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton.

Judy Cloyes

 

Judy Kathryn (Purdom) Cloyes passed away July, 15, 2020 at the Sonshine Manor Personal Care Home in Ellijay, Georgia. She was 76 years of age. 

A native of Waycross, Georgia, she graduated from Ware County High School where she was Homecoming

Queen in 1961. 

She was preceded in death by her father, Lemuel A. Purdom and mother Dorothy May (McQuaig) Purdom. Left to grieve her loss include her husband Bob (Jasper, GA), sons Rusty, wife Karen, and grandsons Flynn and Jude (Austin, TX); Steve, wife Kristin and grandson Colin (Portland, OR); daughter Mindy and husband Eric, grandchildren Ellianna, Ceanna, and Cooper (Glen Allen, VA); sisters Sandra, husband Leonard, (Brentwood, CA), Barbara (Waycross, GA), brother, Larry, wife Eloise, (Waycross, GA), and cousins Patricia McCarthy (Waycross, Ga) and Jennifer Poulan, husband Dorian (Jacksonville, Fla).

While living on St. Simons Island, Judy met and married Ensign Bob Cloyes USN, in June 1967 and began a 31 year career as a Navy wife. Together they enjoyed duty stations in San Diego, CA (twice), Brunswick, GA, Virginia Beach, VA (three times), Newport, RI, Monterey, CA, and Keflavik, Iceland.

While raising their children Judy experienced the tremendous bond of both squadron and ship’s company wives’ groups. Retirement began in 1997 from Navy life for Bob, and for Judy from the administrative offices of the Virginia Beach School System.

Since then they have lived in El Cajon, CA; Sequim, WA; Blackshear, GA, and Jasper, GA. settling in the Bent Tree Community. Judy has been a life-long Episcopalian. She grew up in Grace Episcopal Church in Waycross, GA and concluded in the Episcopal Church of the Holy Family in Jasper, GA. She converted Bob in 1967 and encouraged his participation in every Episcopal Church along the way. For all, it has been a time of mourning since she left this world. Be assured she continues to be kind, gracious, and loving in the Lord’s Kingdom as she has been a blessing here on Earth.

A Celebration of Life service and reception will take place in the near future.

Virgil Wilson

 

Mr. Virgil Dean Wilson, 88, of Ranger, Georgia, departed this life on Sunday evening, July 19, 2020 in Cartersville, Georgia. 

Mr. Wilson was born in Fairmount, Georgia, on January 9, 1932. He was a son of the late William Sollie “W.S.” and Nellie Louise White Wilson. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his son, Tim Wilson; sister, Brenda West; brothers, Melvin Wilson, and Eugene Wilson; sister-in-law, Virginia Wilson; and a brother-in-law, Porter Black.  

He was a 1950 graduate of Fairmount High School. Prior to ill health he had been a salesman for Shaw Industries. Mr. Wilson loved to sing and was a member of Pleasant Grove Ryo Baptist Church. He loved talking to people and was a great businessman. He loved to play musical instruments such as piano, his guitar, and more.  Mr. Wilson was a HAM radio operator and was a lover of history.

Mr. Wilson is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha and Butch Brendel of Talking Rock, Margie Wilson of Fairmount, Connie and Rick Luense of Rydal; grandchildren, Jordan Wilson, Jennifer and Ethan Smith, Deke and Wendy Hightower, Stephanie and Mark Owens, and Amy Luense; great-grandchildren, Haley Owens and Alyssa Owens; one great-great-grandchild, Harper Smith;  brother and sister-in-law, Darrell and Faye Wilson of Ranger; sister, Carol Black of Fairmount; sisters-in-law, Shirley Wilson of Fairmount; and brother-in-law, Gene West of Rydal; several nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Virgil Wilson will be on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Ryo Baptist Church.  Reverend Lamar Beason and Reverend Jerome Silvers will officiate.  Mr. Wilson will lie in state at the church on Thursday where friends may visit from 1 p.m. until the service hour of 2 p.m.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Steve Black, Ronald Wilson, Keith Wilson, Gary West, Mitchell McDougal, Joseph Crider, Kevin Cunningham, and Ricky West will all be honored to serve as pallbearers.

Due to the national health crisis, crowd limitations may be enforced, and social distancing is encouraged. The family requests that anyone attending services at the church please wear a mask for the safety of everyone.

Rex Mull

Rex Walter Mull, 53, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2020 after a long battle with lung cancer. He passed at home in Jasper Georgia peacefully.

Rex was born in Tate Georgia on September 7, 1966.

Rex was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, to so many, and if you had the pleasure of meeting him you were sure to leave with memories that make you laugh.  He enjoyed social events and being surrounded by friends and family.

A memorial service was held on Sunday, July 19th from 2-6 p.m. at In Their Honor of Jasper, 481 Noah Drive, Jasper Ga. Pastor Andrew Hight spoke at the service.

Bill Fitzsimmons

John William "Bill" Fitzsimmons, 85, of Ball Ground, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at WellStar Atlanta Medical Center. Bill was born October 7, 1934 to John Terry and Laura Fitzsimmons in Tate, Georgia. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.

Bill is survived by his wife of 39 years, Paulette Fitzsimmons of Ball Ground; daughters, Angela Rorabaugh of Pennsylvania, Teresa Edinger of Pennsylvania, Nacie Bennett of Ball Ground, Julie McCleskey of Cumming, Beverly Duncan of Jasper, Erica Davidson of Tampa, Florida; grandchildren, Kaliegh Bennett of Ball Ground, Zane Bennett of Ball Ground, Leo McCleskey of Cumming, Brent Duncan of Jasper, Tessa Duncan of Cumming, Nathan Rorabaugh, and Samantha Berry.  Several other family members also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 24, 2020 at the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend John Wolford officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton.

The family will be receiving friends at Roper Funeral Home, Thursday, July 23, 2020                     from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Glenn Taylor Jr.

April 4, 1941 - July 18, 2020

 

Mr. Carl Glenn Taylor Jr., of Jasper passed away Saturday, July 18, 2020 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital, Jasper

Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann Taylor of Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Laura Taylor of Ball Ground; son, Jason Hamby of Jasper; daughters and sons-in-law, Carla and Danny Ross of Jasper, Tracey and Jason Timms of Blue Ridge and Violet and Brandon Stargel of Talking Rock; sisters and brothers-in-law, Brenda and Earl Brooks of Jasper and Gail and William Dilbeck, also of Jasper. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren 

Glenn is preceded in death by his son, Robert Taylor and sister, Betty Phillips  

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 21, 2020 in the Cagle Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Jimmy Gayton officiating.

Pallbearers: Danny Ross, Jason Timms, Brandon Stargel, Bryson Timms, Carl Taylor IV, Zach Fortner, C. J. Stargel, Parker Gravley and Cody Goode.

Interment was at Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery immediately following the funeral services.

Tina Sutton

Tina Weaver Sutton, age 57, of  Fairmount, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2020 at Northside Hospital Cherokee in Canton. She was born November 21, 1962 to Edwin and Johnnie Weaver in Rome, Georgia.

Tina is survived by her husband, Dennis Sutton of Fairmount; daughter and son-in-law, Kristen and Chris Williams of Blue Ridge; sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and Phil Mullinax of Jasper; brother and sister-in-law, Barry and Cindy Weaver of Canton; granddaughter, Kensington Williams of Blue Ridge; grandson, Isaiah Williams of Blue Ridge; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Barry and Donna Roberts of Cartersville.  Several other relatives also survive.

A private graveside service will be held.
