Joan Ward

Joan E. Ward went to her heavenly home on December 28, 2020. She was one of three daughters born to Otis and Mary Priest in Atlanta.

She loved knowledge and was constantly taking classes and studying new things. Among her favorite memories was a European trip to Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Liechtenstein and a cruise to Alaska when she got to see the glaciers and ride in a dog sled.

She particularly prized her private pilots license secured after an arduous period of studying and practicing. She was a member of The Flying Rebels and enjoyed many trips to Kentucky; Florida; the Georgia Coast; Disney World; Pennsylvania (Reading Air Show); Washington, D.C.; Williamsburg, Virginia; and many other locales.

She thought Bent Tree was the greatest place in the world with all of the wildlife, greenery, and fantastic views.

She sold real estate in Bent Tree and held her brokers license she earned along the way.

She enjoyed helping people secure their favorite home. She will be missed by many associates and friends. She loved to laugh and had a very unique laugh.

She was a longtime member of the Jasper Lions Club and was honored by the club as a Melvin Jones Fellow in 2005. She enjoyed participating in the Lions Club Fill-A-Stocking (gifts for kids at Christmas), Fourth of July celebration and parade, Halloween celebration and haunted house and all of the service activities of the Lions Club.

She is survived by her sister, Rita of Thomaston; daughter, Hope Schobak (James) of Buford; a son, Kevin of Braselton and her husband of almost 47 years, David at home in Bent Tree.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. A memoriam in her name to the First Baptist Church of Jasper (198 S. Church Street; Jasper, Georgia 30143) will be greatly appreciated.

Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.
