ATLANTA, GEORGIA – After months of campaign visits from the candidates, it is time for Georgia voters to have their say in the March 1 SEC Primary. The polls across Georgia will be open 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday. Voters are reminded to bring a valid photo ID to vote.
“It has been great watching all seven candidates visit our state during the final days of the campaign and learn about the issues facing Georgians,” said Secretary of State of Brian Kemp. “I know our voters are ready to head to the polls and vote for their candidate.”
A great turnout is expected on Tuesday based on the new record Georgia voters have already set during early voting. 417,491 ballots have been cast through Friday, February 26 and easily broke the previous Presidential Preference Primary record of 271,418 set in 2008.
Looking at the vote by party, 260,443 voted in the Republican Primary and 156,663 ballots have been cast in the Democratic Primary. Some mail-in absentee ballots are still outstanding. Ballots for military and overseas voters need to be received by 5:00 on Friday, March 4. All other mail-in ballots need to be received by close of business on March 1.
On Election Day, if voters see or hear of problems at the polls, they should contact the Secretary of State’s office Stop Voter Fraud unit by calling the hotline (877-725-9797) or visiting the dedicated webpage:http://sos.ga.gov/index.php/elections/stop_voter_fraud.
