Don't drink and drive: Sheriff's checkpoints planned for holidays

This holiday, “drive sober or get pulled over”

Pickens Sheriff Donnie Craig is ramping up efforts to keep drunk drivers off the road this holiday season. Over the next few weeks, the sheriff’s office will conduct concentrated patrols and random DUI safety checks throughout the county “to make sure everyone has a wonderful Christmas season.”

Checkpoints Dec. 15

Recent Case Law has indicated the need for local law enforcement to provide advance notification of sobriety and safety checkpoints. On Saturday, December 15th, the Pickens Sheriff’s Office will be conducting safety checkpoints beginning at 8:00 p.m The locations will vary and the event is expected to last until midnight. This is part of an enforcement effort to reduce the risk associated with accidents involving impaired drivers.
