The Memorial Day ceremony will be held at Sunrise Memorial Gardens on Monday, May 27.
The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m, and include special guest speaker Jim Brescia, new commander for American Legion Post #149.
The ceremony will feature Boy Scout Troop #836, which will place flags on gravesites, a singing of the national anthem, and welcome by Pickens County Commissioner Becky Denney.
Gerald Faulkner of Living Word Church will deliver the invocation, and Don Ware will perform Taps. Crosses will be placed on the hillside to honor fallen soldiers from Pickens County from WWI, WWII, and the Korean, Vietnam, and Gulf wars.
There will be a presentation of wreaths, and a 21-gun salute performed by the local chapter of the DAV.
“This is not really a day to celebrate,” said organizer Wayne Poore of North Georgia Mountain Marine Corps League Det. 1280. “It’s a day to show respect to the brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice so we can enjoy the freedoms this country enjoys.”
