Love parades?  Who doesn’t. The American Legion Post 149 is sponsoring the 2019 Veterans Day Parade and you can be in it. Everyone is welcome and the entry is free. The only thing better than watching a parade is being in one so don’t miss this great opportunity to show your patriotism and support for our veterans.

Parade Master of Ceremonies is local veteran Wesley Farron. Corporal Farron served as a sniper in Scout Platoon of HQ. Co., 2nd BN, 1st  Bde of the 1st Infantry Division in Afghanistan. While there, he was severely wounded by a shot in the back that hit almost all of his vital organs. The extensive injuries sustained required  sixteen surgeries over an extended period of time,

resulting in a medical discharge. For his service, Wes received many awards and decorations including the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Four Army Achievement Medals and Combat Infantry Badge. Riding with our hero will be his wife Melanie and their two children.

The parade will kick off at 10 a.m. with line up beginning at 9 behind the Jasper United Methodist Church.  Participants will march down Main Street and continue to the Pickens County Veterans Memorial located at Lee Newton Park for a short  ceremony and patriotic music performed by Pickens High band and chorus. The national anthem will be sung by local vocalist Isabella Wilbanks.

Flags will be passed out along the parade route by members of the American Legion, so get there early before they run out. Wave your flag with pride as we celebrate our freedom because of those who have helped us keep that freedom today.
