Toys for Tots collections underway

Toys fot Tots Train

With Christmas still a couple weeks away, Toys for Tots’ Pickens chapter has already served over 1,000 children, which exceeds the 880 children who received toys through the program last year.

“Our main coordinator Amy Hamby’s goal is to serve 1,500 kids this year,” said Toys for Tots Assistant Coordinator Richard Wilson, “and I think we’ll make it.”

Donation boxes can be made at the Toys for Tots headquarters at 934 East Church Street in Jasper (in the same strip as Escape & Evade and next to the old Fred’s store) Mondays, Fridays, and

Saturdays. Hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Unwrapped, new toy donations can also be made at the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, the Jasper Police Department, and the Georgia State Patrol Office during their regular hours.

The Georgia State Patrol will also be at Walmart with Toys for Tots this Saturday, Dec. 14 from 8 a.m. through the late afternoon for toy donations.

Toy donation boxes and monetary donations jars can be found at a number of businesses throughout the county.

Wilson estimated 90 percent of their applications have been submitted online this year, which has kept their volunteers busy. Application requests can be made at the local Toys for Tots website jasper-ga.toysfortots.org. Click “Apply for Toys” on the homepage. This feature will be available until December 14. Donations can also be made online.

Physical applications can be filled out at home base, or at the Pickens Sheriff’s Office or Jasper Police Department. Donations and toy pick-ups can be made through December 21st, according to the website.
