Ann Parks

Mary Ann Quinton Parks, 83, passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2021. Ann was born December 6, 1938, in Maryville, TN. The family moved to Talking Rock when she was six years old, and she has lived most of her life there ever since. She was saved and baptized at Antioch Church at the age of 12 and later moved her letter to the Talking Rock Baptist Church.

Ann is survived by her son Tony Parks and wife Cindy. Grandson’s Devon and Anthony (wife Allison).  Brother’s James and Don Quinton, sister Sue Gilbert and husband Fred Gilbert.  Sister-in-law Vivian Quinton. Nieces, nephews and many cousins. Honorary family, David Goss, Tammy Goss and Maddie Elizabeth Hollar.

Ann was preceded in death by husband Truman Parks, parents Jess and Kate (Waldroup) Quinton, brother’s Tom Quinton and John Quinton.

After high school Ann worked at the Georgia Marble Whitestone division.  She worked in a hosiery plant and at HD Lee. She was a top seller for Stanley Home Products for 22 years and sold to many of the north Georgia communities.  She served on several boards for Pickens County.  The Board of Education, NGCAA, Registrars, Friends of Pickens County Library and others.  She was honored with a party in 2016 after serving for 30 years on the board for The Department of Family and Children’s Services.  Ann retired from and will be remembered by many students that she helped teach as a paraprofessional in the Pickens County School system.

Ann began Happy Ramblers around 1981 and before then she organized the Talking Rock Homemakers Club for her mother, aunts and friends. She loved storytelling and attended many story telling conventions in Atlanta and Jonesboro, TN. She told stories at many organizations, never refusing any request to be a speaker for them. Her stories and cooking shows can still be seen on ETC cable.

She served as tour guide on numerous bus trips and train rides. She always took part in the local festivals and was a guide for marble tours during the Georgia Marble Festival, telling stories, making caramel apples, etc. for the Talking Rock Heritage Days Festival.

Ann visited all 50 of the United States (and a few other areas such as Canada and Nova Scotia); completing this dream when Tony and Cindy took her to Oregon and Washington. In school she loved geography and seeing all the places she read about. Seeing all the states was a dream come true. She enjoyed sharing these experiences with everyone. She organized so many trips with tour companies, by bus, train, cruise and plane. Hundreds of people visited places they would never have seen if not for her.

Her last three years of life were spent at Grandview Nursing Home, even with declining health she continued to tell her stories and enrich the lives of all she encountered. She will be missed by all who’s life she touched.

A funeral service was held Saturday, October 30, 2021 at the Talking Rock Baptist Church with preaching by Reverend Buck Parker, Reverend Bobby McFarland and Reverend Steven Hicks. A solo was sung by Anita Foster. Burial was in the Talking Rock Church cemetery.
