Pickens American Legion Post 149 is pleased to announce Eleina Bryant and Jack Resetar have been selected to attend the American Legion’s nationally recognized leadership action program for students June 11-17, 2023. The program is a highly regarded comprehensive one-week course in state and local government and is a program of the American Legion Department of Georgia.
It will be held at Valdosta State University. It is a “leadership action program” where qualified rising high school seniors take part in a practical government course.
It is designed to develop a working knowledge of the structure of government and to impress upon the citizens the fact that our government is just what we make it.
Students from the Georgia program will be selected to attend the national program in Washington D.C. Those who have attended regard the programs as a life changing event.
Eleina Bryant is a rising senior at Pickens County High School. She is actively involved with the Pickens County Youth Leadership Program sponsored through the Chamber of Commerce. She plays varsity soccer and runs varsity track. She is currently rostered to the USYS Georgia State ODP soccer team and plays for Georgia Impact’s 06 Girls’ National League PRO soccer team. Eleina is an active volunteer of the Ronald McDonald House Charities and serves the local community through various volunteer activities of Love Bugs of North Georgia Volunteer Family. Eleina has several soccer scholarship offers for her study in political science and aspires to be an attorney.
Jack Resetar is a rising senior at Veritas Classical School. VCS provides a non-traditional school environment that partners with parents to communicate the truth, train the mind, and cultivate hearts in a Christ honoring atmosphere.
Jack maintains an unweighted 4.0 GPA as an Advanced Placement (AP) Rigor Student. Jack is an Eagle Scout from Scouts BSA Troop 20 in Marble Hill. He is a varsity three year Letterman with the Pickens High School Swim Team and served as a Sea Dragon Captain this past year.
The week before Jack attends the Legion program he will be in Annapolis, MD. attending the United States Naval Academy Summer Seminar. The program is designed to prepare the participants for becoming a midshipman for the Naval Academy.
Jack’s aspirations are to attend one of the military academies and to serve his country as an officer in the military.
