Competition cheer team makes history with 5th place finish at state

Congratulations to the PHS Varsity Competition Team on a history-making 5th place finish at the state championships in Macon, Georgia on November 11th, 2023.

After a beautiful performance, the team fell short of 4th place by only .5 points. As a result of their placement, the PHS cheerleaders were announced as a top 6 finishing team in front of the entire arena and participated in the awards ceremony on the mat amongst the other top 6 placing teams – a truly unforgettable experience for the PHS Cheerleading program.

In the years of competition cheer at PHS, the Dragons have only qualified for state three times since the birth of competition cheerleading in 2014. The first team to make state in 2021, earned a 9th place finish. The 2022 team secured a 10th place finish, and now the 2023 Comp Cheer team earned a 5th place finish.

The Varsity Competition Cheer team is led by Head Coach Liz Prather and assistant coaches Deanna Callahan and Jenni Shoffer. The team qualified for state after winning Region 7 AAA runner up, placing 10th out of the top 16 scores in AAA. The cheerleaders were sent off in style, escorted by both the fire and police departments through town on Friday, November 10th. The team enjoyed waving at all the members of the community as they headed to Macon to make history.

Congratulations to the PHS Varsity Competition Team.

The class of 2024 seniors enjoyed their final competition practice, starting the tradition of signing the mats before their send-off to state. We are so proud of you.
