Farmers Market season runs through mid-December

Vendors enjoy fall weather; market has new fall hours

By Heather Giambra

Yes, another beautiful Fall day for our Jasper Farmers Market! Some of the vendors chose to group together, like Trent and Elizabeth of Sgt. Peppers with their several jars, with several levels of heat, hot pepper jellies and rubs, and Kenneth and Gary Childers, whose produce tables were full of different colorful peppers from sweet to heat, plus, the last of their purple okra. Then three woodworkers were side by side, showing off their skills with their creations. A customer could easily see what each vendor had to offer. But, don’t be fooled, as there were even more woodworkers, and people with peppers further down the line in between bakers, jewelers, crafters, painters, and more. Can we call the folks who make soaps, soapers? They make so much more than just wonderfully fragrant soaps! Perhaps, with their creams and lotions, we should call them beautifiers?

Quinland sourdough bread with pepitas, pumpkin pastry, and banana pecan rolls had customers in a quandary trying to decide which items to pick. She had so many other choices, as well. Little Brook Farms Beef had a long list of items for dinner and the freezer.

If you can sing the theme song to The Beverly Hillbillies, you can substitute these words and name…Come and listen to my story about a lady named Lisa, a baker on a mission to keep us all fed, with cookies and more, she’s raising lots of money, money to beat cancer is her goal….

Goal, that is, beat cancer, ya know…. If ever there was a worthy goal, beating cancer is it. So when you see Lisa Lacheny is at the Farmers Market, you can’t go wrong trading some of your greenbacks for her goal. With several delicious cookies in many forms, hot cocoa mix, snack mix and now, donuts, your mouth will thank you for supporting Lisa’s Baking To Beat Cancer!

The Jasper Farmers Market is held at the Park N Ride parking lot across from the Veteran’s Memorial Park. Since Summer has passed the hours are now 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. and will continue each Saturday until December 7th. The Farmers Market is sponsored by the Pickens County Master Gardeners whose goal is to help the community with garden-related information about growing plants, fertilizing, insect control, soil improvement and much more.
