Troop 20011 of Jasper donated bat boxes to the Talking Rock Nature Preserve as a service project to complete their “outdoor journey.”
They learned about bats and why they are good for the environment, and researched how best to make bat boxes. The girls planned out and built three bat boxes to donate to the preserve. They met with Keith Ray, executive director of the Southeastern Trust for Parks and Land, at the park to give him the bat boxes.
Ray talked to the girls about the bats in the preserve and why they are important, and then took us on a short hike to teach them about the park and the plant and animal life there.
