With Jasper’s new city manager Sonia Jammes in attendance for her first council meeting on her first day on the job, council also announced they are now accepting applications for a fire chief and police chief.
The announcement came after Jasper Police Chief Greg Lovell’s retirement in October of 2021, and in anticipation of Jasper Fire Chief Steve Roper’s retirement this April of 2022. Lovell worked with the city of Jasper for 25 years; Roper will have been with the city for 38 years when he retires.
Matt Dawkins is currently serving as Jasper’s Interim Police Chief. Von Headrick is currently serving as Jasper’s Assistant Fire Chief.
In October, council renamed Dixie Street as G.G. Lovell Street in honor of the former chief’s service with the department.
Applications must be submitted by January 31, 2022 to Jasper’s Human Resources Department. Interviews will be held Friday, Feb. 18 and Friday, Feb. 25. See minimum qualifications for each position and other details about how to apply on page 5A.
