Local teens that are a part of the 21st Century Leaders of Pickens traveled to Emory’s Goizueta’s Business School on Saturday, Feb. 1st for the Spring youth leadership summit.
At the summit, in addition to networking, building leadership skills, and exploring careers, students worked in teams on a business case competition led by MBA students from the Goizueta Business School, addressing a challenge in the industry of fast fashion.
Earlier this year, students had the opportunity to do the Fall youth leadership summit at Georgia State University. These leadership summits allow students the opportunity to learn from college professors and students, as well as their peers. Each of these students used their knowledge and speaking skills to stand out in the crowd.
21st Century Leaders also offer students the opportunity to attend week long area specific training at summer institutes. If students are interested in the healthcare field, they are offered the chance to go to Kennesaw State University.
Georgia Tech partners with Warner Brothers Entertainment for students interested in film and entertainment. Emory’s Goizueta Business School is the destination for students interested in learning more about business. Finally, Georgia College and State University partners with Georgia Power to teach the youth about Earth Care where they focus on the environment and energy challenges.
Due to the sponsorship of large corporations, all of the opportunities with 21st Century Leaders are offered at little or no cost. As always, we thank our Platinum sponsor Renasant Bank without whom opportunities like these would not be available.
There is also financial assistance to fill in any gaps in the ability to pay. Our goal is to have students take advantage of these fantastic opportunities without worrying about money.
If you want to see a teen in your life helping in the community while gaining skills to stand out in the community, get them involved with 21st Century Leaders.
Our club represents a mixture of home school, private school, and public school students in grades 9-12. You can find out more about our organization by contacting Traci Buckingham at 21clubpickens@gmail.com.
