Memorial Day ceremony at new location this year

Memorial Day ceremonies will take place at the Pickens Veterans Memorial Park this year instead of Sunset Memorial Gardens where it has historically been held.

The public is invited to attend the service on Monday, May 27 at 10 a.m.

Keynote speaker will be Lt. Col. Leon Millholland, a member of the Marine Corps League Mountain Det. #1280.

There will be playing of TAPS by Leslie Miller and a Wreath Laying Ceremony.

Mountain League Det. #1280 Commandant Bill Craig said the decision to move locations was logistics and safety. “The parking was becoming an issue, and the terrain was steep in areas and made it difficult for some elderly attendees,” he said.

The Pickens Veterans Memorial Park is located at 599 Veterans Memorial Blvd. near Lee Newton Park.

The event is hosted  by the local Marine Corps League detachment.
