SCHOOL IS BACK! School bells will ring this Friday, Aug. 1, when many students return to class for the 2025-2026 school year. Other students’ first day will be Monday, Aug. 4, on a staggered start.
The Pickens School System has been gearing up for the new year in a variety of ways, including this past Monday’s “Midnight on the Mountain,” the first padded practice for the PHS Dragons, which drew a surprisingly good crowd so late at night. See more photos on Page 1B.
Total enrollment for the system is 3,898, which is down slightly from last year’s enrollment at the beginning of the year. Enrollment by school is: Harmony Elementary, 495; Hill City Elementary, 632; Tate Elementary, 406; Jasper Middle, 584; Pickens Jr. High, 587; and Pickens High, 1,194. Those numbers are expected to change slightly after the school year starts due to late enrollment, transfers, etc.
