New group supports homeless, to hold free Easter dinner

Rhonda Monroe knows what it is like to be homeless, and the Pickens resident recently started Walk with Angels, a group dedicated to helping get people back on track.

“I was homeless about a month and a half when my kids were small,” she said. “I know how they are feeling. I’ve seen a lot of homeless people lately, and want to do whatever we can to get them  a warm place to live and transportation, things they need to get back on their feet.”

Monroe is collecting items for the homeless, which will all stay in Pickens County. She is also holding a free Easter dinner on Saturday, March 30 at 2 p.m. The dinner will be held behind Waffle House on Travelers Rest Road in Jasper. Ham, green beans, sweet potatoes, rolls, corn, and desserts will be served, no questions asked.

Items she collects are tents, sleeping bags, food, blankets, assistance with living areas, assistance with transportation, clothes, and food. Any funds collected will go towards helping the homeless in Pickens.

If you would like to donate or volunteer contact Monroe at 404-632-9643.
