Betty Brooks
Lida Starr “Betty” Brooks, 98, passed away on August 8, 2026, in Raleigh, North Carolina. Betty was born on January 20, 1928. During her long life, she made her home in Atlanta, Georgia; the Washington, D.C., and Maryland area; Jasper, Georgia; and Raleigh, North Carolina. Wherever she lived, Betty’s life was centered on her family, her faith, and the friendships she formed along the way.
In 1950, Betty married Douglas Cozart Brooks. Together they raised two sons and shared nearly 70 years of marriage before Doug’s death in 2020. After many years in the Washington metropolitan area, Betty and Doug retired to Jasper in 1988, where they built a home in Bent Tree and became active members of the community. They were members of First Baptist Church of Jasper and formed many valued friendships through the church and its Sunday School program.
In her later years, Betty moved to Raleigh to be closer to family. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and a gracious woman whose long life touched several generations.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Cozart Brooks. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Robin Brooks of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Gregory and Cheryl Brooks of Amherst, Massachusetts; her grandchildren, Ryan Brooks and his wife Jenny Inzerillo, Alex Brooks and his wife, Genevieve, Collin Brooks and his wife Samantha Brooks, Spencer Brooks; her greatchildren, Davis and Adair Brooks; and other relatives and dear friends.
Betty’s family will remember her with love and gratitude for the many years they were fortunate enough to share with her.
Memorial Service information will be announced by the family.

Bobbye Warford
Bobbye Jean Warford, 90, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2026. She was born on September 2, 1935, to Robert Townzen and Margaret Clinard.
Bobbye was a devoted homemaker who dedicated much of her life to serving others and making a difference in her community. She worked as manager and merchandiser for a chain of Hallmark stores for many years. She was a former president of the Carrollton Civic Women’s Club and served as the manager of the Carroll County Soup Kitchen for 18 years. Through her years of service, she touched countless lives with her compassion, generosity, and willingness to help those in need.
She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Carrollton, Georgia, where she was a beloved member and servant to her church family.
Bobbye was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Louis H. Warford; her parents, Robert Townzen and Margaret Clinard; her sisters: Brenda, Karen and Louise; and her granddaughter, Jessica Crowe Newsome.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her sons, Richard (Cindy) Warford and Roger (Emily) Warford; daughters, Lynette Burrows and Sheila (Gene – deceased) Crowe; grandchildren, Chad (Sarah) Crowe, Rosie (Josh) Matthews, Justin Crowe, Misty Crowe, Jesse Crowe, Savannah Warford, Georgia Warford, Ben Warford, and Rob Meserole; great grandchildren: Savannah Newsome, Ella Newsome (and their father Jason Newsome), Van Crowe, Quinleigh Crowe, Hugh Crowe, Banner Crowe and Eden Matthews; brother, James Donald Townzen (Pat); along with numerous extended family members and friends who will forever remember her love, kindness, and servant’s heart.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Almon Funeral Home with Rev. Jennifer Jindrich officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 21, 2026 from 1 p.m. until the service hour at Almon Funeral Home.
Interment will follow at Carroll Memory Garden with her grandchildren serving as pallbearers. Flowers are welcome or you may make a gift to the Carroll County Soup Kitchen in her name at PO Box 2457, Carrollton, GA 30112.
There will be a reception in honor of Bobbye Jean Warford on Thursday Evening, August 20, 2026 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Jasper United Methodist Church in Jasper Georgia.

Brenda Thacker
Brenda Mae Padgett Thacker, 80, of Nelson, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2026. Born in Jasper, Georgia, on July 18, 1946, she was the beloved daughter of Clara Mae Pendley and Edward Padgett.
Brenda is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Benny Thacker; her children, Benjie Thacker, Tammy (Ricky) Cox, Tina Thacker Adams, and Buddy Thacker; and her grandchildren, D.J. (Melissa) Walker, Jessica (Thomas) Shipman, Justin (Tracy) Thacker, Lisa (Tony) Jones, Brittney (Taylor Scott) Adams, Breanna (Britton) Brock, and Dawson Thacker. She is also lovingly remembered by her 15 great‑grandchildren and her great‑great grandson. Brenda leaves behind her siblings, Sue Young, Tunnie (Shirley) Padgett, and Eddie (Judy) Padgett. She is preceded in death by her parents Clara Mae and Edward Padgett; brother Charles Padgett and great granddaughter Harper Jones.
A woman of many talents and endless curiosity, Brenda loved painting, sewing, crocheting, and genealogy. Known throughout Nelson and the surrounding communities as the “Hometown Historian,” she dedicated countless hours to preserving stories, memories, and local heritage. She was a mentor, teacher, and inspiration to many, always willing to share her knowledge and her heart.
Brenda enjoyed traveling with her family, camping and hiking at Long Swamp Creek, photography, gardening, cooking, arrowhead hunting, and countless other outdoor adventures. Her home was filled with creativity, warmth, and the comforting rhythm of her favorite show, Days of Our Lives, which she watched faithfully.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 14, 2026, from 1 p.m. until the funeral service at 4 p.m. in the Robert A. Cagle Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Thomas Shipman officiating. Interment followed at Bethesda Baptist Church Cemetery in Nelson, Georgia.
