Russell Davis

Russell Herbert Davis, 83, of Talking Rock, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at his home.  He was born January 26, 1938 to Irvin and Minnie Davis in Davenport, Florida.  

Russell is survived by his wife of 63 years, Eugenia Davis of Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Gina and Stan Pyles of Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Rusty and Misha Davis of Jasper; son, Randy Davis of Canton; son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Donna Cummings of Jasper; brother, Eugene Davis of Pelham, Georgia; sister, Faye Bryant of Moultrie, Georgia; sister, Thelma PettiJohn of Moultrie, Georgia; sister, Viiria Brown of Florida; brother and sister-in-law, Phillip and Pam Morey of Pelham, Georgia; twelve grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.  Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.  

He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

A memorial service will be planned for a later date.

Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory. 

Gary Mayfield Sr.

Mr. Gary Ray Mayfield Sr., 59, of Fairmount, Georgia, departed this life, Thursday August 19, 2021 in Jasper, Georgia. 

He was born May 31, 1962 in Chattanooga, TN. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Mayfield, daughter, Jessica Kay Mayfield.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Melissa Mayfield of the residence; son, Gary Ray Mayfield Jr. and his wife Amanda; daughter, Crystal Mealer and her husband Craig all of Fairmount, GA; grandchildren, Braxton Mealer, Gary Ray Mayfield III, Luke Mealer, Ava Taylor, Maddee Mayfield, Ivy Grace Mealer.

At his request he will be cremated and no services will be held.

Robert Lanier

July 26, 1966 – August 11, 2021

Mr. Robert Vance Lanier, 55, of Villa Rica, passed away Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at his residence.

Mr. Lanier is survived by his Mother, Ann W. Smith of Jasper, and Pops, C. Ray Smith of Jasper; brother, Chris Lanier of Jasper.

Graveside services were  held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.

Mary Hollingshead

August 28, 1948 – August 19, 2021

Mrs. Mary Ledford Hollingshead, 72, of Jasper, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.

Mrs. Hollingshead is survived by her husband, Johnny Hollingshead of Jasper; sons and daughters-in-law, Carl & Carol Sue Hollingshead of Tate, Eddie & Hannah Hollingshead of Jasper, Charles & Wanda Hollingshead of Pineville, KY, and Bobby & Tammy Hollingshead of Jasper; daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce & Mack Massengill of Fayetteville, Margaret & Richard Mason of Ellijay, and Tammy & Victor Roberson of Waleska; sister and brother-in-law, Betty & James Jordan of White; 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, August 23, 2021 at Cagle Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Harold Hightower and Rev. Chris Pack officiating.

Interment was at Macedonia Memorial Park following the funeral service.

Pallbearers: Elijah Roberson, Jesse Mason, Carl Hollingshead Jr, Alan Hollingshead, Donald Shirley, and Jacob Hollingshead. Honorary pallbearers: Herman Hollingshead, Alan Timms, and Bobby Ray Hollingshead.

Dink  Patterson Jr.

March 7, 1970 – August 18, 2021

Mr. Harold “Dink” Patterson, Jr., 51, of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Assured Hospice in Cartersville.

Mr. Patterson is survived by his mother, Mary Patterson of Jasper; brother, Kenny Patterson of Jasper; sisters, Pamela Gysin of Kennesaw, and Paula Patterson; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Visitation was held Saturday, August 21 at Cagle Funeral Home.

Interment of cremains will be at Bethesda Church at a later date.

Ann Peeler

Ann Raynes Peeler, 75, passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2021 following an extended illness.

Ann was born July 28, 1946 in Pickens County to Auburn and Lillie Raynes. She was predeceased by her parents, daughter Tina Padgett; son Donald Lee Padgett, husband James Peeler, seven sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa Padgett Aiken (Earl Robert) of Gainesville, Ga. and Denise Padgett Weimer (Clayton) of Athens, TN; grandchildren, Jacentia Hernandez, Roger Lee Gamble, Jewelyschia Davis and Austin Calhoun; great-grandchildren, Kaleiah Clark, Zackariah Mullins, Jaxson Calhoun, Lillyanne, Paulina, Romeo & Mariah Davila, Gianni & Mystic Hernandez; Alex, Joseph, Mikyla, & Jacob Gamble. 

At her request, Ann was cremated and services will be scheduled at a later date. 

Randy Poole

August 9, 1980 – August 14, 2021

Mr. Randy Poole, 41, of Talking Rock, passed away Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.

Randy is survived by his companion, Shawna Jordan of Talking Rock; mother, Betty Parker; sons, Braydon Poole and Brody Poole of Talking Rock; step-son, Andon Byrd of Ball Ground; step-daughter, Kilee Byrd of Ball Ground; brother, Richard Lee Parker of Talking Rock; sisters, Joyce Swanson of Acworth, Nancy Parker of Acworth, and Janice Hamby of Canton.

The family will have a celebration of life at a later date.

Phillip Godfrey

November 3, 1947 – August 20, 2021

Phillip Melvin Godfrey, 73, of Talking Rock, Georgia passed away Friday, August 20, 2021 at the Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Marcia Lynn Godfrey; son, Dwayne Godfrey; son, Darrell Godfrey; daughter, Denise Gilreath (David); son, David Godfrey (Kristy); son, Daniel Godfrey (Kerry); Grandchildren, Dillon Godfrey, Austin Davis, Dakota Davis, Lacey Godfrey, Maylee Gilreath, Amber Lariscy, Maggie Clonts, and Dixie Godfrey, 6 Great-Grandchildren, sister, Edith Chastain; brother, Bernerd Godfrey, sisters-in-law, Jimmy Sue Godfrey and Patsy Godfrey and Laguana Godfrey.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Godfrey, Grandson, Dustin Davis, Sisters, Lois Wright and Frances Burgess, Brothers, Leon Godfrey, Eugene Godfrey, Truman Godfrey, Randall Godfrey and Kenneth Godfrey.

Services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, August 23nd, 2021 at Jerusalem Baptist Church with Rev. Robbie Lusk, Rev. Greg Long, Rev. Kenny Griffin, and Rev. Thomas Wheeler officiating. The interment followed in the Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery with Terry Dean officiating.

Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home. 

Kenneth Tomberlin

December 6, 1951 – August 19, 2021

Kenneth W. Tomberlin, 69, of Talking Rock, Georgia passed away Thursday, August 19, 2021 at his home. He was born December 6, 1951 to George Broadhurst Tomberlin and Mary Lois Davis Tomberlin Lazo in Ybor City, Florida.

Kenny is survived by his wife of 49 years, Vicki Tomberlin of Talking Rock, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Nikki Tomberlin of Balm, Florida; daughter, Stacy Tomberlin of Tampa, Florida; son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Stacie Tomberlin of Talking Rock, Georgia; daughter and son-in-law, Kandis and Christopher Riley of Lakeland, Florida; grandchildren, Kameron Tomberlin, Rylee Tomberlin, Rocky Tomberlin, Olivia Tomberlin, Paisley Tomberlin, Kaelyn Ambrose, Zachary Riley, Macie Riley; and sister, Shirley Tomberlin Fletcher of Okeechobee, Florida.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, August 27, 2021 at Hillsboro Memorial Chapel in Tampa, Florida. Interment will follow in Hillsboro Memorial Gardens.

The family will be receiving friends at Hillsboro Memorial Chapel, Friday, August 27, 2021 from noon until the funeral hour.

Benton Edmonds

January 15, 1938 – August 20, 2021

Benton Castell Edmonds, 83, of Talking Rock, Georgia passed away Friday, August 20, 2021 at Seasons Hospice in Cumming, Georgia. Mr. Edmonds loved playing the guitar and was always helping others. He retired from the City of Canton. He was a member of the Town Creek Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Hattie Edmonds and one sister, Edna Lee Ballew.

He is survived by his spouse Joan Mulkey Edmonds of Talking Rock, GA; two children, Neil Edmonds (Yvonda) of Talking Rock, GA and Kim Drown (Kenny) of Jasper, GA; two grandchildren, Kanani Christian and Dustin Edmonds; and one sister, Charlene Powell.

Graveside services were  held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 24th 2021 at Liberty Baptist Church in Ranger, Georgia with Rev. Tony Blankenship and Rev. Tommy Sanford officiating. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Town Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.

Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.
