Richard Bryant

            Roper Funeral Home announces the death of Richard James Bryant, 82, of Canton, Georgia passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at his home. Mr. Bryant was born July 29, 1939 to Lemma Stanfield and Woodrow Bryant. He sold paving equipment and frequently won salesman of the year. He enjoyed fishing and skiing on the lake. Mr. Bryant also enjoyed watching Braves baseball and hunting.

            He is preceded in death by his parents Woodrow and Lemma Bryant and his brother Willis Bryant. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Lois Sledge Bryant, two children Alan Bryant and Cindy Bryant, and four grandchildren Reese, Riley, Mattie, and Luke.

            A graveside service was held at Free Hope Baptist Church of Jasper, Georgia on Saturday, July, 30 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Ronnie McCormick officiating. For those desiring, memorials may be made to Hightower Baptist Church PO Box 569 Ball Ground, GA 30107.The family requests that no food be brought to the funeral home.

.    Brenda Pike

            Brenda Lee Pike, 71, of Jasper, Georgia passed away Thursday, July 21, 2022 at her home.  She was born October 30, 1950 to James Etzel and Marion Blanche Minnerly in Houston, Texas. 

            Brenda is survived by her husband, David Pike of Jasper; daughter, Alison Plumley of Jasper; sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Lisa Pike of Madison, MS, Joshua Pike of Jasper, Isaiah and Amy Pike of Jasper; grandchildren, Austin Plumley, Abby Plumley, Isabelle Pike, Mason Pike, Marcus Pike, Easton Pike, and Brody Pike. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Elissa Hively.         

            The family will be receiving visitors at Roper Funeral Home August 13, 2022 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Gene Aaron Jr.

            Eugene “Gene” Goss Aaron, Jr, 71, of Ellijay, GA passed on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.  Gene was born January 18, 1951, in Chattanooga, TN to his late parents Eugene Goss and Betty Sue (Fairbanks) Aaron, Sr.  Gene was a member of Salem Baptist Church of Ellijay.  Gene served honorably as a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corp.

            Gene is survived by his wife Cheryl Denine (Mervyn) Aaron, Ellijay, GA, daughter Barbara and Bobby Coker, Jasper, GA, son Eugene Goss Aaron, III, Ellijay, GA, sister Debbie and Jerry Parks, Ellijay, GA, grandchildren Jacob Coker, Hailey Buckles, Dalton Coker, Breanna Coker, Gracie Coker, great-grandchildren Damyien Coker, Parker Coker, Kairi Buckles, and nieces and nephews survive.

            A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, August 6, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the Logan Funeral Home Pavilion with Rev. Daniel Reeves, and the North GA Honor Guard officiating.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at  Logan Funeral Home & Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Carver

March 7, 1939 – July 30, 2022

            Mrs. Mary Jean Carver, 83, of Jasper, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Northside Hospital Cherokee.

            Mrs. Carver is survived by her husband, Junior Carver of Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Tim & Jeanette Carver of Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Cathy & Jeff Tilley of Jasper; brothers, Joe Fountain of Calhoun, and Jimmy Fountain of Jasper; sister, Frances Millsap of Jasper; three grandchildren Lezley Gross, Allen Tilley and Andy Tilley; four great grandchildren, Jayda Tilley, Isaac Tilley, Malachai Tilley, and Arya Brown.

            She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude Albert and Emma Fountain; brothers, John Fountain, Jerry Fountain, and Charlie J. Fountain; sisters, Dora Jane Silvers, and Ann Boltz.

            Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at Cagle Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Harold Cantrell, Rev. Joe Fountain, and Joe Holt officiating.

            Interment was at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, following the funeral service.

            Pallbearers: Junior Martin, Allen Tilley, Andy Tilley, Daniel Brooks, Daniel Sutton, and Mark Fountain.

Chester Guthrie Jr.

            Chester Lee Guthrie Jr., 94, of Jasper, Georgia passed away Saturday, July 30, 2022 at his home. He was born March 2, 1928 in Nashville, Tennessee. He proudly served in the United States Navy and served in the Korean War. He then became a barber in Dublin, Georgia where he owned his own shop for 35 years.

            Mr. Guthrie is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Colleen Guthrie of Ocala, Florida; son, Leland Guthrie of Tennille; son, Craig Guthrie of Nicholsville; daughter, Selina Epps of Jasper; grandchildren, Thomas and Tisa Epps, Wayland Epps, Rachael and Tyler Rowland, Brittany Guthrie, Eric Guthrie, Troy Haun and 14 great-grandchildren.

            He was preceded in death by his wife, Belva Guthrie and his daughter, Colleen Haun.

            A private Celebration of Life will be planned.

George Slaton

            George Brice Slaton, 95, of Dawsonville passed away Sunday July 31, 2022 at his residence following a period of declining health.

            Born January 11, 1927 to the late Jack and Myrtie Slaton, he was a lifelong resident of Dawson County.  George was an extremely hard-working man and was very talented at many trades.  He was a skilled welder, roofer, poultry and cattle farmer. He was an avid NASCAR fan from the very beginning of the sport.  Mr. Slaton was a U. S. Navy veteran of WW II where he served on the USS Yorktown.  He was a member of Concord Baptist Church and had enjoyed attending Camp Meeting at Lumpkin Campground since his childhood.  George leaves behind many friends and loved his family and grandchildren most of all.  Also preceding him in death was his first wife, Aline Thurmond Slaton and 15 siblings.

            Surviving are his wife, Colleen Pendley Slaton, Dawsonville; children, Philip and Dell O’Shields, Joe Hill, Carolyn and Reggie Stowers, all of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Kelly and Adam Pruett, Dawsonville, Kassie and T. J. Byrd, Dawsonville, Leah Stowers, Cumming, Seth and Becca Stowers, Dawsonville; great grandchildren, Khloe, Parker, Blaine, Kate and Slaton; sisters in law, Dorothy Singleton, Dawsonville, Naomi Baldwin, Ballground, Brenda Pendley, Dawsonville; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

            Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel.  Rev. Tommy Panter, Rev. Dennis Bottoms and Rev. Tyler Goode will officiate. Interment will follow in the Dawsonville City Cemetery with military honors.

Russell Pendley

            Russell Pendley, 75, of Jasper, Georgia, a United States Army Veteran and Purple Heart recipient, passed away Friday, July 29, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family.

            Funeral service was Sunday, July 31 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Interment followed at Sunrise Memorial Gardens with Military Honors by DAV Chapter 47 of Jasper.

            Mr. Pendley is survived by his wife of 53 years Linda Pendley; son Scotty Pendley and wife Jamie, of Jasper, Georgia; daughter Crystal Walker and husband Marcus, of Jasper, Georgia; brothers Larry Pendley and wife Bessie “Dolly,” of Marble Hill, Georgia; Tom Pendley and wife Gina, of Jasper, Georgia; sisters Joyce Chumley and husband Ronnie, of Tate, Georgia; Mary Lee and husband Tony, of Jasper, Georgia; Martha Elischer and husband Jon, of Tate, Georgia; grandchildren Brooklyn, Isabelle, Julia, Elliemae, and Elijah.

            Russell was honored to serve his country in the Vietnam conflict. He worked for Coca Cola Company as a fleet mechanic for 33 years. He also enjoyed summer and fall gardening, cutting wood, working on cars, hunting, watching television and being a great provider for his family.
