Gail Dobbins

            Gail Sims Dobbins went home peacefully to her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at her residence.

            Winona Gail was born August 20, 1947 the third child of the late Janie and James Sims of Jasper, Georgia. She attended Pickens County High School and graduated in 1965. She began what would be a successful, almost 30 year career at Southern Bell, and then BellSouth, at the age of 18 in Marietta, Georgia as an operator. She would retire in 1997 as an engineering assistant.

            In 1967 she met and married the love of her life Gerald “Pat” Dobbins, a Marietta, Georgia native, and that is where they made their home together until his passing in January of 2007. She was a faithful wife caring for and staying by his side everyday of his prolonged illness. They enjoyed 39 years together and her family rejoices in knowing Pat welcomed her to Heaven with open arms this week.

            She loved Elvis, chocolate, musical theater, and the Atlanta Braves but her most joy came from spending time with her precious grandchildren. Gail was a member of Restoration Life Christian Fellowship.

            She is survived by her two daughters Alana (Scott) Lucero of Woodstock, Georgia and Patricia (Shane) Kirby of Lavonia, Georgia; her grandchildren Christopher Lucero, Kathryn (Kent) Johnston, Carter Lucero, Taylor Kirby and Sydney Kirby; her beloved sister Beverly (Richard) White of Jasper, Georgia and many treasured nieces and nephews.

            Gail was also predeceased by her brother Lenning (Louise) Sims of Jasper, Georgia.

            The immediate family will receive friends and family Friday, January 26th 5-8 p.m. and Saturday, January 27th at 10-11 a.m. at Marietta Funeral Home and Crematory. The memorial service will be held Saturday, January 27th at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Reverend Ken Kessler will officiate the service.

            Gail wished for all her mourners to wear red, her favorite color.

            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Life School International, P.O. Box 671063, Marietta, GA or to the Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta, 2221 Peachtree Road, Suite D-226, Atlanta, GA 30309.

Mary Aaron

            Mary Lou Aaron, 78, of Jasper, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital. She was born September 3, 1945 to Dennis and Bonnie Cantrell in Ellijay, Georgia.

            Mary is survived by her husband of 60 years, Gerald Aaron of Jasper; daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Dewayne Fendley of Canton, Jackie and Greg Gibson of Jasper; brother, William Cantrell of Jasper; sister, Ruth Gravitt of Calhoun; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Aaron of Jasper, Charles Aaron of Ball Ground; sister-in-law, Beth Aaron of Florida; grandchildren, Brian and Kelly Fendley of Blairsville, David Fendley of Canton, Ethan and Jessie Gibson of Calhoun; and six great-grandchildren.  Several nieces, nephews, and other family members also survive.

            She was preceded in death by her mother, Bonnie Cantrell; father, Dennis Cantrell; and sister, Shirley Aaron.   

            Funeral services were  held 2 p.m., Friday, January 19, 2024 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Buck Parker and Reverend Nathan Smith officiating. Interment followed in the Refuge Baptist Church Cemetery in Jasper.

            The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Sharptop Baptist Church.  (Cody McFarland; 23 Stock Drive; Ball Ground, GA  30107)

Margaret Arp

            Margaret Francine Arp, 59, of Talking Rock, Georgia passed away Friday, January 19, 2024 at Wildwood Health Care.  She was born May 13, 1964 to Francis Elbert and Arrie Pauline Arp in Pickens County.

            Margaret is survived by her sister, Virginia Arp of Jasper; brothers and sisters-in-law, Virgil and Wanda Arp of Blue Ridge; Melvin and Penny Arp of Jasper; and Kim Arp of Jasper.  Several cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family members also survive.

            She was preceded in death by her parents Francis Elbert and Arrie Pauline Arp; brothers, Marvin Arp and Glenn Arp.

            Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at Free Hope Baptist Church in Jasper. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

            Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory. 

James Anderson Sr.

            Mr. James Wilson Anderson, Sr., 72, of Jasper passed away Friday January 19th, 2024 at the Northside Hospital Cherokee. Mr. Anderson was employed over many years with local grocery stores in the produce department including, McFarland’s, Walmart, and later with Ingles. He was preceded in death by his father, George Wilson Anderson and his mother, Stella Fields Anderson.

            He is survived by his wife, Laneve Richards Anderson of Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Jeremy Young of Jasper; son, Jason Anderson; brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Inge Anderson of Jasper; sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy and John Dorsey of Jasper, Barbara and Jimmy Blackwell of Jasper; grandchildren, Sabrina Young and Chloe Young.  A host of nieces and nephews also survive.

            The funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Monday January 22, 2024 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Shipman officiating. Music conducted by Brian Rittenberry. The interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens with Rev. Ricky Jarrett officiating.  Serving as pallbearers were Darren Hooper, Steven Padgett, Blake Lancaster, Ethan Fields, Jackie McClure, and Tex Macom.  

            Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory of Jasper.

James Grant Jr.

            James Frank Grant Jr., 78, a United States Army Veteran, passed away January 16, 2024, in his home in Big Canoe, GA. Burial was Tuesday, January 23, 2024 in Georgia National Cemetery. Care and Trust placed with In Their Honor of Jasper.

Larry Wallace

            Larry Wallace, 83, of Talking Rock, a United States Marine Veteran, passed away Thursday, January 18, 2024. Burial is being planned for Georgia National Cemetery. Care and Trust placed with In Their Honor of Jasper.

Dedra Bidlack

            Dedra E. Bidlack, 48, of Calhoun, GA passed away Sunday, January 21, 2024. No services are planned at this time. Care and Trust placed with In Their Honor of Jasper.

Carol Young

June 22, 1957 -January 16, 2024

            Mrs. Carol Ann Young, 66, of Talking Rock, GA went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January

16, 2024. Carol was born in Atlanta, Georgia on June 22, 1957.

            Carol was a loving wife, granddaughter, mother and grandmother. Carol loved to cook, she also loved to make people laugh, telling the best of jokes, being outdoors, all types of flowers, bird and squirrel watching, Bojangles fried chicken and especially her coffee. Carol will surely be missed by all those who knew and loved her. Her cooking will be missed as well.

            Carol is preceded in death by her grandmother.

            She is survived by her husband Randy Young, son Robert (Ann-Marie) Young, daughters, Jannis Young, Sherry (Mark) Caylor and very many precious grandchildren also survive to cherish their grandmother’s memory.

            A funeral service for Carol was held at Macedonia Baptist Church Friday, January 19, 2024 at two o’clock in the afternoon with Rev. Mark Caylor officiating. Interment followed the service in church cemetery with Rev. Harold Hightower officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Robert Young, Terry Wyman, Dustin Young, Johnny Wyman, Lonnie Davis and Eli Wyman.

            Larry Kenneth Prather, 72, of Jasper, Georgia passed away Sunday, January 21, 2024. Mr. Prather was buried Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at Ray Family Cemetery. Care and Trust placed with In Their Honor of Jasper.
