Mr. Eddie G. Puckett, 78, of Ranger, GA in Pickens County, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2022 at the Cartersville, GA Center for Nursing and Healing.
Eddie was born on May 10, 1944 in Ellijay, GA to the late John Puckett and Effie Stepp Puckett. Eddie had eight brothers and one sister. Eddie graduated from North Gwinnett High School in 1963. Eddie served his country in the US Army in Vietnam and received a Purple Heart. Eddie retired working as a Renowned Sculptor with over 30 years from the Georgia Marble Company in Tate, GA. Eddie loved fishing at Carters Lake. He loved watching Nascar, football, and wrestling.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Patsy Watson Puckett of Canton, GA; daughter, Angela Puckett of Jasper; son, Kevin Puckett and daughter-in-law Amy Puckett of Canton; one grandchild, Alex Puckett of Canton; and one living brother, Danny Puckett and sister-in-law Glenda Puckett of Morganton, GA; and sister-in-law, Eunice Puckett in Cherry Log, GA. Funeral services were held at Logan Funeral Home at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 10 with Senior Pastor Ben Mock officiating. Military Funeral Honors immediately followed the service in the Logan Funeral Home Pavilion with rites performed by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Eddie will be placed to rest at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Heart Association. Charles Brooks Thawley of Jasper passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022, at the age of 81.
The son of the late Charles B. Thawley IV and Ruth F. Thawley of Brunswick, GA, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of over 60 years, Nancy Jernigan Thawley. He is survived by their three daughters, Lauren D. Thawley, Deborah T. Williams (George) and Catherine Brooke Thawley; grandchildren, Brittany W. Fowler (William), Jordan L. Linder (Kimberly), Sarah Anne Williams, Zachary T. Ortman, and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Thawley Bruce (Jim) of St. Simons Island, GA.
An alumnus of Glynn Academy High School in Brunswick, GA, Charlie went on to earn college degrees from The Southern Technical Institute and Mercer University, a Graduate Certificate from George Washington University, and Project Management Professional Certification.
His career was very diverse and included work with government electronics contractors supporting the US military, and work within the telecommunications industry. In his early years, he held several positions which supported testing of Missile Guidance Systems at Eglin Air Force Base and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He then worked a number of years for Boeing Company at Kennedy Space Center in Florida during the Saturn V, Apollo Program. Over the following 30 years, he worked for AT&T and held several management roles, retiring as a Security Systems Project Manager.
Charlie had many interests and hobbies he enjoyed over the years that included hiking, fishing, camping, traveling with his wife, and vacationing with his family. He was also interested in and studied the history of the US Navy, of US military aircraft and the history of US military involvement around the world. He enjoyed artistic wood working and watching his grandchildren participate in sports and other miscellaneous events. He also spent several years tutoring US military recruits in Math and Electronics, preparing them for the Enlistment ASVAB entrance exam, many of whom went on to build successful careers in the US Navy and US Marine Corp.
After they both retired, Charlie and his wife moved to the North Georgia mountains they loved so much, and it was there they lived out the remaining years of their lives together.
Charlie’s immeasurable love and dedication to his wife and daughters, love of family, extraordinary sense of humor, his kindness and willingness to help others, his enduring faith and sense of honor and integrity, unwavering admiration and support of our US Navy and military, and his love of Country will be forever a part of his legacy.
A private funeral service will be held at a later time to be determined.
