Janis Stancil

            Mrs. Janis McGhee Stancil, 91, of Jasper, Georgia passed away Sunday, July 24, 2022 at the Retreat in Jasper. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clinton Shaw (Jack) McGhee, Mother, Estie McArthur McGhee, Sisters, Anna Jane McGhee and Diane McGhee Towery, Brothers, Jimmy McGhee and Sammy McGhee, and her husband, Fred K. Stancil, Jr.

            She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Duckett (Carl), Jasper, Nina Stancil Bell (Lee), St. Simons Island, Georgia, daughter, Fredna Stancil (Randy), St. Simons Island, Georgia, Tina Stancil, Paradise Valley, Az, granddaughter, Tiffany Griffis (Rob), great-grandchild, Fay Griffis; brother, Billy McGhee (Charlene) and sister, Sue Payne.

            The memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at the First Baptist Church of Jasper with Rev. Preston Jones officiating.

            In lieu of flowers that contributions be made to First Baptist Church of Jasper Preschool.

            Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.

Bryan Hamby

            Bryan Hamby, 50, of Ball Ground, Georgia passed away Monday, July 18, 2022 at  his home.  He was born April 12, 1972 to Joe and Phyllis Hamby Jr. in Jasper, Georgia. 

            Bryan is survived by his fiance, Amy Hyde of Ball Ground; daughter, Cheyenne Langston of Talking Rock; daughters, Whitney and David Robinson of Ball Ground, Kayla and Kevin Silvers of Ball Ground; mother and father, Phyllis and Joe “Bug” Hamby of Jasper; brother, Ken and Traci Hamby of Ellijay; sister, Tracy and Jason Chester of Jasper; brother, Josh and Amy Hamby of Ball Ground; grandchildren, James Langston, Abigail Nichols, Mason Silvers, Charleigh Silvers.  Several nieces, nephews, and other family members also survive.      

            Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 21, 2022 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Jonathon Edwards and Reverend Steven Chapman officiating. 

            Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.

Matty Porter

            Lt. Col. (Ret) Matilde “Matty” Porter, 85, of Jasper, Georgia passed away Thursday, July 21, 2022 at The Retreat at Jasper.  She was born January 24, 1937 to Felex and Ana Matta in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  Matty proudly served her country and retired from the United States Army.

            Matty is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Michell and Richard Brown of Savannah, Georgia; adopted family, Major (Ret.) Bill and Maxine Barbour of Talking Rock; grandchildren, LTC Matthew Barbour, United States Army,  Andrea Barbour Dukes of Texas, Sarah Barbour Campbell of Marietta, Georgia; and six great-grandchildren.          

            A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 29, 2022 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home.  Her cremains will then be placed at Georgia National Cemetery at 3 p.m., August 24, 2022.

            Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.    

Linda O’Conner

            Linda O’Conner, 81, of Jasper, Georgia passed away Friday, July 22, 2022 at her home.  She was born October 14, 1940 to the late Pete and Carrey Langdale in Worth County, Georgia. 

            Linda is survived by her husband of almost 63 years, Edward “Buddy” O’Conner of Jasper; two daughters, Debbie O’Conner Branham (Ronnie) of Tate, Pamela O’Conner Young (Kenneth) of Ball Ground; two sons, Scott O’Conner (Tina) of Jasper, Greg O’Conner of Roswell; five grandchildren, Hannah, Brandon, Tyler, Katie and Preston; two great-grandchildren, EvaKate and Hudson; three sisters, Rose Langdale Johnson Huber (Jim) of Warner Robins, Dot Langdale Gantz of Allentown, Pennsylvania, and Peggy Langdale Roberts of Byron.  Many nieces, nephews and other family members also survive.

            Linda has been a Christian since 1964. She was dedicated to her Lord and her church. Her family were very precious to her.    

            Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Sunday, July 24, 2022 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Carl Maynard, Reverend “Butch” Roberts, and Reverend Ron Branham officiating. Interment followed at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.

            Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.

Amanda Burrell

December 19, 1981 -July 24, 2022

            Ms. Amanda Kay Burrell, 40, of Talking Rock, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2022 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.

            Ms. Burrell is survived by her fiance, Aaron Dodd of Jasper; sons and daughter-in-law, Zack & Haley Burrell of Jasper, and Caleb Burrell of Jasper; father, Joe Burrell of Rabun County; mother, Geraldine & John Mewborn of Jasper; brothers and sister-in-law, Lee & Belle Walden of Jasper, and Steven Walden of Talking Rock; sister and brother-in-law, Melissa & D.J. Walker of Talking Rock; several nieces and nephews.

            Visitation is Wednesday, 8 a.m. until 9 p.m., and Thursday, 8 a.m. until the funeral hour.

            Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Cagle Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Joseph Hightower and Rev. Franklin King officiating.

            Interment will be at Sunrise Memorial Gardens following the funeral service.

            Pallbearers: Lee Walden, Steven Walden, Pat Childers, D.J. Walker, Aaron Dodd, Ryan Evans, Josh Moss, and Buddy Patterson. Honorary pallbearer, Jordan Walker.

            The family will accept flowers, or donations can be made to Cagle Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.

            Cagle Funeral Home is honored to serve the Burrell family.

Rosa Thurman

February 18, 1935 -July 21, 2022

            Rosa Girard Thurman, 87, who loved to be called “Momma” by her kids and their friends, departed her loving family on July 21, 2022 while under the care of WellStar Community Hospice.

            Rosa was born in Jasper, GA on February 18, 1935, to Arthur and Ella Wofford Girard. She married Joseph Thurman on September 23, 1955.

            As a Unit Secretary at Kennestone Hospital in the Newborn Nursery and NICU, Rosa was known for her willingness to help, her smile and dedication to the physicians, nurses and babies. Her hobbies included gardening, mowing the lawn on her riding lawnmower and reading. She loved a good Harlequin Romance.

            Rosa was mother to five children. She raised her children with love and devotion in Marietta, GA.

            She is survived by her daughters, Toni Thurman, Betty Thurman, and Dona Belzer, her husband Brad and son Michael Thurman and his wife Terri; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

            Rosa was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Lynne Thurman, brothers, James Girard and Albert Tracy Girard, and sister, Mary Cantrell.

            Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Cagle Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jeremy Mullinax officiating.

            Interment was at Sharp Top Baptist Church Cemetery following the funeral service,

            Pallbearers: Brady Girard, William Cantrell, Jackie Byers, Tyler Girard, Peyton Couch, and Parker Couch.

            The family requests in lieu of flowers, donate to American Cancer Society.

            Cagle Funeral Home is honored to serve the Thurman family.
