Faye Evans

            Faye Pinyan Evans, 80, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.  She was born October 3, 1941 to Albert and Vernice Pinyan in Maryville, Tennessee.  Faye and her husband, Robert, observed their 63rd wedding anniversary Friday, May 27, 2022.

            Faye is survived by her daughter, Becky Patterson of Fairmount; son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Donna Evans of Fairmount; grandchildren, Justin and Melissa Patterson, Ross and Sabrina Patterson, Whitney and Cody Patterson, Kristen Johnson; great-grandchildren, Will Patterson, Stella Patterson, Julia Patterson, Nora Patterson, Emma Johnson, Owen Patterson, Bella Johnson, and Evan Elvey.  Faye is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Martha and John McAfee of Ranger and several nieces, nephews and other relatives..

            Faye was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Wigington. 

            A special thanks to Faye’s caregivers, Angela Kirby, Jamie Collis, and Deborah McDaniel.

            Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 4, 2022 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Buck Parker, Reverend Nathan Smith, and Reverend Grant Wade officiating. Interment followed at Price Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.  Pall Bearers were Mike Dobbs, Ken McAfee, Ted Miller, Jamie Haynes, Clint Smith, and Joey Jones.

            The family accepted flowers or in lieu of flowers, please make contributions in memory of Robert and Faye Evans to the Lewy Body Dementia Association online at lbda.org or phone 1-800-539-9767.

            Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.

Dottie Cagle

            Dottie Cagle, 90, of Jasper, Georgia passed away Thursday, June 2, 2022 at Pruitt Health Care in Jasper.  She was born March 27, 1932 to Clifford and Jennie Mae Jordan in Tate, Georgia. 

            Dottie is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanette and Rudy Wehunt  of Jasper, Patsy and Joey Padgett of Marietta; grandchildren, Justin and Megan Padgett, Josh and Carrie Padgett, Jenny and David Richards; great-grandchildren, Jace Padgett, Hannah Padgett; sister, Mary Helen Turner of Jasper; half-sisters, Barbara Lusk, Linda Floyd; half-brothers, Tommy Jordan, Jimmy Jordan.  Several other relatives also survive. 

            She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Cagle; parents, Clifford and Jennie Mae Jordan; and step-mother, Bessie Lois Jordan.           

            A graveside service was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Sunrise Memorial Gardens with Reverend Grant Wade and Reverend Johnny McPherson officiating.  

            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Mrs. Cagle to the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.

                     Edith Evans

            Ms. Edith Mae Holmes Evans, 80, of Fairmount, Georgia, departed this life Saturday evening, June 4, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

            Edith was born November 17, 1941 in Pickens County, Georgia, a daughter of the late Clinton W and Jewell Turner Holmes. She was also preceded in death by the father of her children, Thomas RLee Evans, son-in-law, Eddie Champion, sister Dorothy “Dot” Presnell and a brother and sister-in-law, Don and Betty Holmes. Edith was the original owner of The Tastee Freeze Restaurant in Fairmount, Georgia, and is still family owned and operated as, KC’s Corner Restaurant. Edith was a member of Pine Grove Church of Christ in Pickens County, Georgia.

            Edith is survived by her son, Greg and Melaine Evans of Talking Rock, Georgia; daughters, Beverly and Randy Cox, Karen Champion, and Tina Silver and Jerrell Thomas all of Fairmount, Georgia; grandchildren, Paul Warmack, Tucker Warmack, Jacob Silvers, Hannah and Nick Forrette, Emma Evans, Cole Evans, and Mandey Crook; great-grandchildren, Maverick Warmack, Graylynn Silvers, Alexander Forrette, Chandler Forrette, and Mia Sims; sisters, Doris and Jimmy Clark of Fairmount, Georgia, Carol and Harold McDaniel of Jasper, Georgia; brothers, Garmond and Jual Holmes of Fairmount, Georgia, and H.A and Margaret Holmes of Jasper, Georgia; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

            Service to celebrate the life of Ms. Edith Mae Holmes Evans was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning, June 7, 2022 at Ponders Fairmount Chapel with Brother David Holmes and Brother Charlie Feltham officiating. She will be laid to rest with her family at the Pine Grove Church of Christ Cemetery in Pickens County, Georgia, with Paul Warmack, Tucker Warmack, Jacob Silvers, Cole Evans, Nick Forrette, Wayne Holmes and David Holmes honored to serve as pallbearers.

Robert Evans

            Robert L. Evans, 81, passed away Monday, May 30, 2022 at Wildwood Health Care. He was born August 9, 1940 to Clayton and India Evans in Talking Rock, Georgia. He and his wife, Faye Pinyan Evans, observed their 63rd wedding anniversary Friday, May 27, 2022.

            Robert is survived by his daughter, Becky Patterson of Fairmount; son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Donna Evans of Fairmount; grandchildren, Justin and Melissa Patterson, Ross and Sabrina Patterson, Whitney and Cody Patterson, Kristen Johnson; great-grandchildren, Will Patterson, Stella Patterson, Julia Patterson, Nora Patterson, Emma Johnson, Owen Patterson, Bella Johnson, and Evan Elvey; siblings, Ollie Dobbs of Canton and Elmer and Shirley Evans of Woodstock.  Robert is also survived by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Martha and John McAfee of Ranger and several nieces, nephews and other family members.

            Robert was preceded in death by his sisters, Picola Holcomb and Helen McArthur.

Thelma Sheehan

            Thelma I. Sheehan, 98, formerly of Palatka, Florida, died May 29, 2022, at The Oaks Personal Care Home in Fairmount, Georgia.

            Born January 18, 1924, in McKean County, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Leroy and Mae Knight Amsler. 

            She loved spending time with her family and attended Tate United Methodist Church in Tate, Georgia.

            On June 30, 1965, she married Edward B. Sheehan, who preceded her in death on October 6, 2005.

            Thelma was also preceded in death by her son, Paul L. Hertlein, (wife, Sharon) on August 23, 2016, her sister Evelyn Blauser, on April 5, 2018, and a granddaughter.

            She is survived by her daughter, Sandra I. Cason (husband, Carswell) of Hoschton, Georgia; her son, Dennis C. Hertlein (wife, Pam) of Orlando, Florida; and one sister, Pauline Greenawalt (husband, Glenn) of Renfrew, Pennsylvania.  Thelma had ten grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, ten great-great-grandchildren, one niece and four nephews. 

            She was transported to Palatka, Florida, to be buried beside her husband in Palatka Memorial Gardens following a graveside service Friday, June 3, 2022 at 11 a.m.  A memorial service will be held at a later date. 

            Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory. 

Masonic Resolution

            To the Worshipful Master, Warden, and Brethren of Pickens Star Lodge #220 F&A.M. Jasper, Georgia.  Whereas, on May 24, 2022 it was the will of the Grand Architect of Heaven and Earth to Call from Labor to Refreshment our beloved Brother Charles Eugene Gay.

And whereas we, his brethren, feel keenly his absence from our midst, and while we humbly bow to the

will of our Infinite Creator, we desire to make a suitable Memorial, therefore:

            Be it resolved that Pickens Star Lodge No. 220 F&A.M. express to the family of our departed Brother, deepest sympathy and wish to express our gratitude for his life of service among us.

            Be it further resolved that a copy of these resolutions be sent to the bereaved family of our departed brother,

            A copy to be spread on our minutes and a copy be published in the Pickens County Progress.
