Hoss Edge

            Marvin “Hoss” Edge, 76, of Canton passed away Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.

            Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at the Sosebee Memorial Chapel.  Interment followed in New Hightower Baptist Church Cemetery.  

            Mr. Edge was a member of Philippi Baptist Church in Dahlonega.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting and riding motorcycles.

            He was preceded in death by his parents, Smith and Alma Edge.  Survivors include his companion, Arlene Crowe; children, Regina Hollingshead (David), Rita A. Holden (Scott) and Ricky Edge; siblings, Arnold Edge, Joyce Talbert and Annette Green; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

            Serving as pallbearers will be Dillon Edge, David Hollingshead, Marty Evans, Brian Johnson, Billy Kelly and Steve Ghorley.

Red Smith

            Norvell Wayne “Red” Smith, 90, of Jasper, Georgia passed away Friday, April 29, 2022 at home. He was born July 1, 1931 to Marion and Miriam Smith in Memphis, Tennessee.

            Memorial services were held at 7 p.m., Monday, May 2, 2022 at Roper Funeral Home with Mark Mitton officiating.  

            Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory. 

Clarice Stewart

            Clarice Mae Stewart, 97, of Jasper, Georgia passed away Thursday, April 28, 2022 at The Retreat at Jasper.  She was born in Langdale, Alabama.

            Mrs. Stewart is survived by her three children and two grandchildren.       

            She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis E. Stewart.

            She worked as a Registered Nurse for 35 years. She enjoyed painting, artwork, and gardening during her retirement years.  She was Past President of the Sharptop Arts Association in Jasper and was  instrumental in organizing art shows for members and for school children. 

            Mrs. Stewart’s remains will be placed at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia alongside her husband.

            In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pickens CARES or the First Baptist Church of Jasper.

            Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory. 

Donna Garrow

            Donna Garrow, 61, of Key Largo, Florida formerly of Jasper, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2022 in Florida. She was born June 5, 1960 to Jimmie Sue and Randall Godfrey.

            Donna is survived by her husband, James Garrow of Key Largo, Florida; sons, Louis Johnson of Talking Rock, Andy Johnson of Talking Rock, Alex Johnson of Kingston; son, Dewayne Johnson of Talking Rock; sister and sister-in-law, Laverda Godfrey and Peggy Schmidt of Cumming; brother, Billy Joe Godfrey of Talking Rock; mother, Jimmie Sue Godfrey of Talking Rock; grandchildren, Allison Johnson, Harley Johnson, Gracie Johnson, Aslyn Johnson, Corbin Johnson, Tinsley Johnson, Claudio Johnson, Wyatt Johnson, and Cansler Johnson.         

            She was preceded in death by her father, Randall Godfrey and brother, Randy Godfrey.

            In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Roper Funeral Home. 

            A Graveside service was held at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 1, 2022 at Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery  with Reverend DeWyatt Tidwell officiating.  

            Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.

            Kathleen Ann Snyder, 74, of Canton, Georgia passed away Monday, April 18, 2022. No services are planned at this time. Care and trust placed with In Their Honor of Jasper Funerals and Cremations.

            James Larry Gunter, 71, of Jasper, Georgia passed away Saturday, April 30th, 2022. No services are planned at this time. Care and trust placed with In Their Honor of Jasper Funerals and Cremations. 

Walter Frady

            Walter Lee Frady, 70, of Talking Rock, Georgia passed away Saturday, April 30th, 2022. No services are planned at this time. Care and trust placed with In Their Honor of Jasper Funerals and Cremations. 

Amanda Perry

            Amanda Perry, 85, of Jasper, Georgia passed away Sunday, May 1, 2022. 

            Visitation will be Wednesday, May 4, 2022 from 10 a.m. til the 2 p.m. with the funeral service in the Chapel of In Their Honor of Jasper Funerals and Cremations. Pastor Ben Mock will officiate. Burial will follow 10:30 a.m, Friday May 6, 2022 at Georgia National Cemetery.                                Mrs. Perry was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and loved all her church activities, groups, and friends. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and collected rooster and chicken items for her home. 

            Amanda is survived by her husband of 63 years Donald Perry, Sr., of Jasper, GA; daughter Donna Mathias and her husband Lee, of Cartersville, GA; son Scott Farr and his wife Janis, of Jasper, GA; son Donald Perry, Jr. and his wife Lynn, of Dallas, GA; seven grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.

Emory Ray

November 28, 1931 – May 1, 2022

            Mr. Emory Ray, 90, of Tate, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2022 at Grandview Health Care.

            Mr. Ray is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy & Hazel Ray of Talking Rock, William & Debra Ray of Canton, Eugene Ray of Dawsonville, and Allen & Janni Ray of Hill City Community; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra Maxie of Dawsonville, Dolores & Donald Jones of Tate, and Melissa & Harold Violet of Tate; nineteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. 

            He was preceded in death by his wife, Jewell Ray.

            Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at Cagle Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. A.B. Stewart officiating.

            Interment followed at Sunrise Memorial Gardens following the funeral service.

            Pallbearers: Dustin Violet, Craig Jones, Travis Jones, Jamie Ray, Jeffery Cowart, and Jason Cowart. Honorary pallbearer: Scott Violet.

            The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cagle Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.

Virgil Chastain

September 8, 1944 – April 26, 2022

            Mr. Virgil Chastain, 77, of Talking Rock, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.

            Mr. Chastain is survived by his wife, Margaret Chastain of Talking Rock; sons and daughter-in-law, Matt & Channa Chastain of Hinton Community, and Mark Chastain of Atlanta; daughter, Wendy Chastain of Hinton; brother and sister-in-law, Johnny & Anita Chastain of Hinton, sister and brother-in-law, Patricia & Chris Huston of Hinton; grandchildren, Jack Spears, Sean Spears, Ryan Spears, Nolan Chastain, and Maggie Chastain; several nieces and nephews.

            Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2022 at Cagle Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Mark Mitten officiating.

            Interment was at Hinton Community Cemetery following the funeral service.

            Pallbearers: Jimmy Cagle, Mike Denson, Chris Houston, Scotty Moss, Kevin Moss, and Ed Buchanan.

Donna Bryant

April 29, 1962 – April 25, 2022

            Mrs. Donna Bryant, 59, of Jasper, passed away Monday, April 25, 2022 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.

            Mrs. Bryant is survived by her husband, Greg Bryant of Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Christi Marie & Wes Wilson of Jasper; sister and brother-in-law, Deb & Charlie Ledbetter of Jasper; grandchildren, Zoe Bryant and Ella Wilson.

            She was preceded in death by her brothers, Jerry Buttrum and Terry Buttrum.

            Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Cagle Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Danny Baker, Rev. Scott Lawson, and Rev. Barry Payne officiating.

            Interment was at Four Mile Baptist Church Cemetery following the funeral service.

            Pallbearers: Alan Bryant, Melvin Bryant, James Jernigan, Don Jardine (AKA Tree Top), Wes Wilson, and Greg Bryant.

            In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cagle Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.

Masonic Resolution

            Masonic Resolution on the death of Brother Carl Franklin Grizzle

            To the Worshipful Master, Warden, and Brethren of Pickens Star Lodge #220 F&A.M. Jasper, Ga.

            Whereas, on April 15, 2022 it was the will of the Grand Architect of Heaven and Earth to Call from Labor to Refreshment our beloved Brother Carl Franklin Grizzle.

            And whereas we, his brethren, feel keenly his absence from our midst, and while we humbly bow to the will of our Infinite Creator, we desire to make a suitable Memorial, therefore: 

            Be it resolved that Pickens Star Lodge No. 220 F&A.M. express to the family of our departed Brother, deepest sympathy and wish to express our gratitude for his life of service amonth us. 

            Be it further resolved that a copy of these resolutions be sent to the bereaved family of our departed brother, a copy to be spread on our minutes and a copy to be published in the Pickens County Progress.
