Winnie Mitchell

            Winnie S. Mitchell, 95, of Jasper, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at Northside Hospital Cherokee.

            Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 10, 2021 at the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Dwayne McPherson and Rev. Phillip McPherson officiating. Interment followed in Pleasant Union Baptist Church Cemetery. 

            Mrs. Mitchell was the oldest member of Pleasant Union Baptist Church.  She enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening and spending time with her family.

            She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther McDonald Mitchell; daughter, Barbara Poole; parents, B.J. and Fairie Satterfield; two sisters and three brothers.  Survivors include her two grandsons, Neal Poole and Jeff Poole; brother, George Satterfield (Bonnie); son-in-law; Larry Poole; two sisters-in-law, Olga Satterfield and Doris Bradley; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

            Serving as pallbearers are Barry Satterfield, Todd Satterfield, Eddie Satterfield, Stanley Satterfield, Pat Childers and John Satterfield.

George Utiss Jr.

            George Utiss Jr., 72, of Talking Rock, Georgia passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital.  He was born July 15, 1949 to George and Juanita Williams Utiss in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. 

            George lived in Jesup, Georgia from 1954 until 1964 and attended Wayne County Schools.  He then moved to Brunswick where he lived until 1986.  He married Deborah Smith April 24, 1970 in Brunswick, Georgia.  He was a charter member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Jesup, Georgia; former member of College Place United Methodist Church and Taylor’s United Methodist Church in Brunswick; a 1967 graduate of Glynn Academy; attended Brunswick Jr. College; and received his Georgia Funeral Director’s License in August of 1973.  He worked for Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home until 1986 and then returned to Jesup to work at Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home until retirement.

            He was a charter member of Epworth United Methodist Church and attended there until 2009.  He was a member of Ocean Lodge #214 F&AM from 1975 until 1986; Jesup Lodge #112 F&AM in Jesup until 2010 and then Pickens Star Lodge #220 F&AM.  He was a former member of Marshes of Glynn Chapter Order of the Eastern Star 243 in Brunswick; Member and Past Worthy Patron of Ben Gibbs Chapter #299 in Jesup and current member of Marble Hill Chapter #448 in Pickens County, Georgia.  George was a past member of the Georgia Funeral Directors Association.

            George and his wife, Deborah, were very involved in the Classic Car Scene in the area and together they attended many local and national car shows.  Together they wrote articles for several shows and the National Street Rod Associations Magazine, “Street Scene,” and was a member of NSRA.  He was a long-time member and former officer of South Georgia Street Rods in Waycross, was founding member of the Altamaha Classic Cruisers in Wayne County. 

            He retired in 2009 and moved to Talking Rock, Georgia in Pickens County and was a member of Jasper United Methodist Church.

            George is survived by his wife, Deborah Smith Utiss of Talking Rock; and several  nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Juanita Williams and George Utiss Sr.

            A graveside service was held at 2 p.m., Sunday, October 10, 2021 at the Jesup City Cemetery. 

            In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Masonic Children’s Home, Methodist Children’s Home, or the Baptist Children’s Home.

            Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.

Mary Moore

            Mary Lois Moore, 98, of Jasper, Georgia passed away Monday, October 4, 2021 at Grandview Health Center in Jasper.  She was born October 28, 1922 to James and Dora Roach in Tate, Georgia. 

            Mary is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Leron Moore Jr. and Delores Moore of Powder Springs; daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Terence Norman of Marietta, Alethia Dawkins and Dr. Reginald Dawkins of Smithville, Virginia; grandchildren, Marla Jo Moore, Joshua Moore, Ginny Francis, Terence Kellen Norman; brother, Truman Roach; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and many other friends and relatives.

            She was preceded in death by her husband, Leron Moore, Sr.; brothers, Preston Roach, Grady Roach, and James Franklin Roach.       

            Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, October 8, 2021 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home. Interment followed at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.

            The family will accept flowers or memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in her honor.

            Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.

Barbara Worley

            Barbara Worley, 74, of Rockmart, Georgia passed away Sunday, October 3, 2021 at Redmond Regional Medical in Rome, Georgia.  She was born December 15, 1946 to Richard and Mildred Brooks. 

            Barbara is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Lance Turner of Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Kim McClure of Talking Rock; son, Mark Raven of Rockmart; son, Ritchie McClure of Blairsville; ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

            A memorial service will be planned for a later date.

            Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.

Gerald Robson Sr.

            Gerald Dale Robson Sr., 78, of Jasper, Georgia passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital. He was born May 26, 1943 to Steward and Mildred Robson in Baltimore, Maryland.

            Gerald is survived by his wife, Betty Robson of Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Lanny and Tina Lusk of Jasper; daughters and sons-in-law, Jacqueline Rena Mitchell and Joaquin Martinez of Cartersville, Tracy Denise and Lloyd Mulkey of White, Angela Michelle and Roger Williams of Rome; grandchildren, Robert and Carmen Lusk of Jasper, Samantha and Jon Webb of Jasper, Michelle and Jimmy Tidwell of Fairmount, Danielle and Luis Perez of Cartersville, Deidra and Jeremy Heath of Cartersville, Robby Mitchell of Cartersville, Christopher Mulkey of White, Gerald Mulkey of White, Justin Sheffield of Cartersville, Hunter Sheffield of Rome; 11 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Robson and son, Gerald Dale Robson Jr.

            Graveside services were  held at 3 p.m., Friday, October 8, 2021 at Oakhill Cemetery in Cartersville with Reverend Robert Lusk and Reverend Steve Taylor officiating.

            Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory. 

Lurlene Kent

            Lurlene Betty Kent, 89, of Ball Ground, Georgia passed away Friday, October 8, 2021 at Wildwood Health Care. 

            Lurlene is survived by her son, Alan Kent of Yellow Creek; grandchildren, Michael and Penny Kent of Yellow Creek, Brandon Kent of Yellow Creek; great-grandchildren, Cody Kent, Steven Kent and Mikey Ken. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

            She was preceded in death by her parents, Joshua and Loas Kent; siblings Geather Kent and Gladys Roper.

            Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Yellow Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Jeff Wilkie, Reverend Brandon Kent, and  Reverend Sylvester Ridings officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

            Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory. 

Herman Ray

            Herman Ray, 88, of Jasper, Georgia passed away Friday, October 8, 2021 at his home.

            Herman is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Bradley Ray of Hinton, Shawn and Contessa Ray of Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Ron Evans of Hinton; stepson, Jack Harris of Waleska; sister, Willa Mae Mullinax; grandchildren, Alisha Blackwell, Whitney Tilley, Veronica Martin, Jordan Rawson, Rori Ray, Anthony Harris and Betrice Harris; and ten great-grandchildren.

            He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Ray; sister, Azzalee Silvers; brother, Herbert Ray and two grandchildren.

            Funeral services were held on Monday, October, 11 2021 at 2 p.m. at Hinton United Methodist Church with Reverend Jim Schlidht and Johnny Barnes officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

            Arrangements are entrusted to the dtaff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.

James Jarrard

September 11, 1958 – October 8, 2021

            Mr. James Jarrard, 63, of Jasper, passed away Friday, October 8, 2021 at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital.

            Mr. Jarrard is survived by his wife, Cheryl Jarrard of Jasper; sons, Matthew Satterfield, and Michael Ralston; daughters and son-in-law, Piper Satterfield, Amy Satterfield, Bethany & Rick Davies, and Donna Satterfield; brother and sister-in-law, Harold & Katina Satterfield; sisters and brother-in-law, Sherry & Richard Fields, and Tracy Satterfield; 10 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

            He is preceded in death by his daughter, Misty Jarrard; grandson, Zachary Cook; and great-grandson, Braylen Patterson.

            Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, October 11, 2021 at Cagle Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Butch Roberts and Rev. Greg Bryant officiating.

            Interment was at Goshen Baptist Church Cemetery following the funeral service.

            Pallbearers: Matthew Satterfield, Conner Williams, Eddie Feehery, Tyler Jarrard, Chris Patterson, and Oden Godfrey.

Teresa Tatum

July 7, 1960 – October 8, 2021

            Mrs. Teresa Tatum, 61, of Jasper, passed away Friday, October 8, 2021 at Emory University Hospital.

            Mrs. Tatum is survived by her husband, Johnny Tatum of Jasper; daughters and son-in-law, Rachel & Don Chestnutt of Canton, and Emmaly Ghorley of Canton; brothers, Greg Easterwood of Ellijay, and Thomas Easterwood of Jasper; sisters, Penny Arp of Jasper, and Coral Robinson of Jasper; grandchildren, Tatum Ghorley, Paisley Ghorley, Cyrus Cain, Ella Chestnutt, and Ally Chestnutt; several nieces and nephews.

            Teresa is preceded in death by her parents, Earl & Dallas Easterwood; brothers, Larry, Ervin, and Allen Easterwood; son-in-law, Stephen Ghorley; father-in-law, Marcus Ermaine Tatum; mother-in-law, Florene Tatum.

            Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 11, 2021 at Cagle Funeral Home Chapel, with Greg Easterwood, Rev. Adam Parker, and Rev. Tim Bell officiating.

            Interment was at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery, following the funeral service.

            Pallbearers: Garry Tatum, Michael Tatum, Mark Tatum, Adam Easterwood, Nick Reed, and Robert Piper.
