Wesley Cook

Wesley J. Cook, 81, of Jasper, Georgia passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.  Wesley was born November 17, 1939 to Roy and Adele Cook in Adairsville, Georgia.

Wesley is survived by his wife, Mary Cook of Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Anita and David Carver of Talking Rock; brother, Bobby Cook of Ellijay; grandchildren, Jordan and Makayla Carver of Fairmount, Madison Carver of Talking Rock, and Greyson Carver of Talking Rock.  Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Cook; mother, Adele Cook; brother, Everett Cook; brother, Loel Cook; and sister, Colleen Wofford.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, August 12, 2021 at Free Hope Baptist Church in Jasper. Interment will follow at Lake Forest Memorial Park.

The family accepted flowers or memorial contributions in Wesley’s honor may be made to Free Hope Baptist Church.

Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.  

David Stoneking

David Stoneking, 60, of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.  He was born December 14, 1960 to Charlie and Patricia Stoneking in Fairmont, West Virginia.  David was a very dedicated maintenance man for his employer, Metal Coaters of Georgia, for thirty years.

David is survived by his wife of 30 years, Kate Stoneking of Jasper; and daughter and son-in-law, April and Mike Cole of Jasper. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, relatives and very special friends and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Charlie Stoneking; his mother, Pat Stoneking; his brother, Mark Stoneking; and his grandparents.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, August 15, 2021 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Dottie Williams officiating.   

A special thank you on behalf of the Stoneking family to the ICU nurses and staff at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.

Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory. 

William Hilditch Jr.

William Hilditch, 76, of Talking Rock, passed away Monday, August 9, 2021, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital. Hilditch, as he liked to be called, was born August 7, 1945 to William J. Hilditch Sr. and Estelle DeCost Hilditch in Niagara Falls, New York. He moved to Talking Rock in 1999 after building the home of his dreams.

Hilditch is survived by his significant other, Susan Mowry.

Arrangements are being handled by Leaf Cremation in Acworth, Georgia. No services are planned at this time.

Prentice Turner

Prentice Magdalene Turner, 90, of Jasper, Georgia passed away Sunday, August 15, 2021 at her home. She was born May 10, 1931 to Carter and Mamie Owens in Tate, Georgia.  

Prentice is survived by her grandson and his wife, Nathan and Meghan Daniel of Johnson City Tennessee;  her granddaughter and her husband, Anna Laura and Chris Rhudy of Johnson City, Tennessee;  great-grandchildren, Isaac and Mason. A host of other relatives, family and friends also survive. 

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sybil Daniel. 

Prentice always expressed her pride in growing up in Tate and going to Tate school. Later, she was an enthusiastic member of Marble Valley Friends which worked to restore the old Tate Gym. She loved Free Hope Baptist Church and talked about when it was founded and how her father helped with constructing the church building. And, she treasured her many good friends from her years working, particularly in the old shoe plant, at local banks, boys and girls club, and in the school system.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 21, 2021 in the cemetery of Free Hope Baptist Church with Reverend Ted Estes and Reverend Johnny McPherson officiating. Interment will follow in the Free Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Andy Holden, Ronnie Fields, David Scott, Joey Jones, Mark Roland, and Ronnie Gilliand.

The family has requested In lieu of flowers, friends and family make donations to the Pickens County Boys & Girls Club.
