Pear Relish

• 4 cups Old Timey pears

• 4.5 cups finely chopped onions

• 3 cups sugar

• 5 cups green peppers finely chopped

• 5 cups hot peppers, finely chopped

• 3 cups vinegar

• 2 T salt

• 1.5 tsp celery seed

• Dash of nutmeg

• Dash of cinnamon

• Combine all ingredients in a large pan.

• Cook 30-40 minutes.

• Fill clean canning jars with hot relish and seal with hot jar lids

            Enjoy! The hardest part of this recipe is finding old times pears. They are the only ones that don’t get soft. Awesome with cornbread, soup beans and onion!

            I learned quickly to spot them at old home places and often stop and ask permission to gather pears. Folks are great about sharing and most don’t have a clue what to do with pears!
